Some people are so sick with their indoctrination that they think that all of Paul's words were meant for all people regardless of the circumstances. - More succinctly, Paul's letters were his words, not God's words.

The apostle Paul set these standards for women. And he had Jesus' approval to do so. 1 Timothy 2; 12 I do not permit a woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 Also, Adam was not deceived, but the woman was thoroughly deceived and came to be in transgression. 15 However, she will be kept safe through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and sanctification along with soundness of mind. Point four of the question is correct. But not point one. The only stipulation is for them not to teach as a religious leader. This does not stop them from preaching about jesus to the general public. Psalm 68; 11 Jehovah himself gives the saying; The women telling the good news are a large army. The ' good news' is the same as in Matthew 24; 14 And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

I'm not certain how the injuction is relate dot "hair and bows". If your saying that Paul was giving instruction one how women should pray and prophesy (aka. teach) in the church, then yes, that's true. He did say that women could either have their heads covered or hair braided---none can actually agree on what the word he used means.

Also, as far as what I preach it to mean, I preach it to mean that Paul was liberating women. In a society that said it was better to burn the Torah than let a woman read it, Paul said a woman SHOULD learn. In fact, the "be silent" was exactly how learning was accomplished as it meant more of "peaceable" (as it translated elsewhere) or quiet. Also, Paul leaves ultimate decision to women, who have authority over their own heads, and can judge for themselves.

I don't think the New Testament teaching that women should be silent in church really applies in the situation you're describing. What you're describing wasn't about being female, it was about talking out of turn and being rude.

However, in my opinion, the idea in the New Testament that women should be silent in church, not ask questions or teach, is about as ignorant a teaching as it gets.

EDIT: To Marcus R........ Right on.

Organized religion today is all about the money. If a woman has some to give to that church, she gets some power basically. If not, unless she is sponsored by another woman who has money or a man that wants her company, the traditional faiths keep them out. It's a boys club.

Actually when Paul said that he was referring to silents while he was preaching. This event is written in the book of Corinthians when he said that, was because inside the home fellowship the women were asking their husbands meanings of the things Paul was preaching, so in other words the strumming of their voices was not helping him preach. So Paul ask the women to remain shut and to ask their husbands in their home the definition of their doubts.
The real meaning is not that women are less than men, and most church reflect that when it comes to this topic to discuss, but that was in another time and for another situation that is was written.

not so sure about that. It goes on to say if they want to learn they should learn at home from their husbands. I think it is 1 corinthians something or other. But, it is real clear that women should remain silent and women should not teach men or preach to men. The christian god does not care for women in a position of power over a man. But, thanks for trying to make that verse seem less sexist good try.

The meaning behind this is that the man should be the spiritual leader of the family and make sure that the family abides in the way of the Lord. Therefore, if the man is doing his job, then the wife will know and not have to ask the question. Or the man will have the knowledge and be able to answer her question, or will attain it. The wife should not go to another person for spiritual guidance, she should go to her husband. This also enforces the bond between husband and wife as they confide in each other.

Just as God held Adam responsible for eating the apple, instead of Eve (they were kick out of the Garden of Eden because of Adam, while Eve was given the pain of childbirth for her disobedience), he also holds the husband responsible for the family's spirituality. It was Adam's responsibility to make sure they didn't eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil

Well, I have yet to find a christian based belief system that does not give ascribed status to male roles, AND suppression of value of the female That's why males are so adamant about supporting christianity. Any suppression reveals fear. To me, it would be valuable for "christian" females to understand that, while most ability follows the line of gender, there are no constants. These women will also understand their true value when they accept that everyone is created equally. Only different.

From what I understand that was all about order in the early church. Women who did not understand the message were shouting across the room to their husbands to explain it. Paul was just saying its better to ask in private at home than it is to disrupt the service.

There are too many female judges and prophetesses for that to mean women should not preach.

The reason people said to the women "be quiet in church" was because of the gossip it was not saying they cant preach.
