Andres Chao, the Mexican consul in Little Rock spoke at a rally for illegal aliens in Tennessee and told listeners that while he could not officially endorse or oppose laws in the U.S., he did hope that local enforcement of immigration law was found unconstitutional. "In response to a question about new laws in Tennessee and other states meant to crack down on illegal immigration, Chao said he can only go so far in his advocacy. 'As a diplomat, I have a limit,' he said. But he said the civil leaders gathered in the room could do more and expressed hope that many such laws would be found unconstitutional," the Commercial Appeal writes.

"Recall that in 2003, Arkansas governor Mick Huckabee asked Vicente Fox to build their new consulate in Little Rock. He even temporarily housed them in a state agency office at a rental rate of $1 per year".

They have no concept of legal or moral. They really don't get that the Constitution only applies to US citizens!

The phrasing "toes the line of illegality" implies that Chao is bordering on being illegal. That is not what the story indicates at all.

And his conclusion about local enforcement of federal laws is being confirmed by every court that addresses the issue -- because it's in the plain text of the federal laws that they preempt and nullify any related state/local issues.

So, if you want to change the federal laws, lobby for that. But I can't see how you can blame a person for hoping that cities and towns don't violate the federal laws.
