I had a chihuahua once and adored it. It was very yappy though and it didnt like kids.

A chi is definitely not a dog for children. Children move quickly and tend to not be careful picking up an animal, so chis will defend themselves against childrene.
None of my chis are yappy. They bark, but quiet down quickly when told to. (a water spray bottle works great for reinforcing the "quiet" command !)
They are not harder to housetrain than any other dog. You must be consistent....maybe people slack off on any kind of training with a chi because they are so small. They are all dog, and they need the same kind of training that a big dog gets !
Any dog will try to dominate you, not just a chi. YOU must be the alpha in your pack no matter what size your dog(s).
I have 4 chis of my own and have fostered many chis over the past 5 years. They are very smart little dogs and are loving and loyal companions.

They are great little dogs can be yappy but if trained right no problem.
Need ato be careful around young children due to teh size they can easily get hurt.
All of mine get along with my cats and all my other dogs and goats. I even had a chi and greatdane and they were fine together.
It's all in the training and don't spoinl to much and get them out and socialized with everything and you shouldn't have any problems.

when i had a chihuahua, he was very stubborn! he wanted all the attention... which is perfectly normal (he's like a baby) he was very dominant and kept peeing even though he knew it was wrong... but i still loved him dearly....

umm. . . they are very loyal dogs and mine isnt really good w/children. they are so cute!!! my chi's name is Marley after Bob Marley and he doesnt really get along all thats good w/my other dog Ozzy (german shorthair pointer) but i think its cause he wants all the attention on him. Also hes not good w.sharing at all. why the question are u planning on getting one? every dog is different though!!!

Would never own one of these dogs, too small and they have an extremely irritating bark.

scary. feels like you're going to break it. often, it just breaks on it's own, then dies in agony.
