Sometimes, when a question has been asked a million of times before (for instance, the many Pascal's Wagers and Monkey questions) we like to cut loose. And on a bad day this might carry over to the next question. Especially if you've just seen 3 Monkey questions in a row. My apologies if I've ever done this to you but I do not think so.

I think it goes both ways really. The Atheists attack the Christians...the Christians attack the Atheists....it never stops. As an Atheist, I make it a point not to judge anyone about their Religious beliefs, and I get frustrated at those who choose to attack rather than kindly inform. It is a sad sad thing that we cannot put our own convictions aside for long enough to learn from each other. Have a star!

I haven't seen that happening. I know there are a few atheists who are young and are trying to get a rise out of you and the other xians by being rude, and making the rest of us look bad. But, if I have anything negative to say to a "believer" it is in responce to a rude question directed to atheists and looking to hear what we have to say about an issue, or trying to insult us or challenge our use of logic. I don't try to push atheism, I know most of you are happy with the answer "god did it" for the things you don't understand. But I'm not.

Atheist here... I'm speaking only for myself, now, not for The Vast Right-Wing Atheist Conspiracy.
I don't mind if you believe, or what you believe, so long as
- you don't hurt anyone else as part of your beliefs,
- you don't preach to me about it,
- you don't try to convert me,
- you don't expect me (or the government, or others) to pay for your beliefs. You should fund it yourself. This includes tax breaks for donations to your church, and reduced rates on property or income taxes that your church would pay, compared to what a business would pay on that same property or on that amount of money taken in.
I suppose one thing that drives some non-believers crazy would be when believers come up with arguments that have been disproved over and over again. The classic is Pascal's Wager. I won't rehash it here again, so do a quick search on it here or in Yahoo to get the details. Suffice it to say that when the same argument pops up again and again and again and again and again, it would drive anyone to drink.

Everyone who posts questions here will get sane and insane answers regardless of religious belief... it goes with the public forum...
While you notice the angry atheists, we tend to notice the angry "not so nice" Christians... but really, there is anger on all sides of the religious debate.
It's like a big sale at a discount store... you have to dig through the crap to find the good stuff.... but there is some VERY good stuff around here....

Respectful, honest questions tend to get (mostly, there are always nutjobs) more respectful, honest answers. You may want to look carefully at how you phrase things, because if you come off as self-righteous or snotty you can expect to be shot down with much venom.
You get back what you put into it.

why do the many good people in both the republican and democratic parties get blamed when just one of their own members is caught in a corruption/bribery scandal?
why do some people think that all catholic priests are pedophiles?
an organization, group, or faith is only as strong as its weakest member....bad news and bad apples get more attention and make better targets.

Disagreeing with an answer may appear hostile to the person asking but that may not be the case at all.

I personally think it's just conditioning. Atheists have a much harder forming their lack of belief because there are few communities for it and no universal doctrine to accept. So, they have had to come up with their defenses for why they do not accept the existence of God, and, due to having to do so often, typically have a difficult time in stopping from their attacks of religious belief. They need to do so to justify it to themself.
