I live in new jersey and have sent proof to the collection agency that it's incorrect and should be removed. But every time a follow up with collection agency they keep saying "another 10 business days"

Send disputes to the credit bureaus for the tradeline the collection agency is reporting.
If you are using credit reports that you purchased from each credit bureau, the collection agency will have 30 days to remove it.
If you are using your free FACTA reports, they have 45 days.

If the collector verifies it and does not remove it, file complaints with the BBB, FTC, your AG and the collectors AG.
Resubmit a dispute with the credit bureaus and include a copy of your FTC complaint.

If it's verified again, you might consider suing the collection agency for violating your rights by reporting it when they know it is inaccurate and for any adverse action you may have suffered because of that tradeline - denied credit, approved for credit but with a higher interest rate than you could have had if it had not been reporting, etc.
