I believe my daughter holds on to "god" just in case there is a heaven or hell.
She is too afraid, to accept death might mean the end. She is more afraid of giving up eternal life, than giving up "god".
She's looking into Buddhism, (and plans on practicing the atheistic buddhism), because they have reincarnation to replace heaven. And therefore she is not giving up an afterlife....

From some of the answers I've seen in the past 10 weeks, I would say many, many people buy into Pascal's wager, but I'd be surprised if someone admits it to you.

In a way.
I believe that deities exist whether they are believed or not. I believe that at least one deity enjoys the sardonic surprise of someone being struck down for their hubris of defying the gods.
I praise my god's existence and thank him for giving gifts to others.

I've always wondered how you force belief. Can you truly believe in the Easter Bunny? Without a lobotomy I mean?

I do not believe in god just in case, any more than I believe that 2 + 2 = 7 just in case.

I certainly hope not, because there is no point to that. God knows our hearts and knows where we believe or not, but believing is only the first step, it won't get us into heaven. Having a true relationship with God is the only way, and there's no way to fake that.

No. . . .I can say that I believe in God because of my life experiences. . .and I love the way my life is now w/ my belief in God. I don't believe in God for what I may get out of it tomorrow but for what I believe He does in my life everyday.

I've found that no one actually uses that as an excuse to believe, but it's a good converting method apparently. :P
Something tells me that was the point you were trying to get at

Personally I think anyone who believes anything as an insurance policy are the biggest form of hypocrite and coward. If you believe, believe because you want to and because it works for you. If you don't, don't because you don't want to and it doesn't work for you. Don't hedge your bets, go all in.
