When I was attending church, my preacher said to me once, "None of us are promised the next breath".

That is both succinct and true.

Probably. I'm an old fart, and my Dad was a minister. There's a lot of things that are just about living. Some of the things in the Bible are actually pretty beneficial, particularly in Proverbs. And Paul's Love Chapter (1 Corinthians 13) is a great poem.

Still, just because wisdom leaks out of someone who's accumulated some life experience doesn't mean that their world view is any more valid than the next person's.

I have never received valuable words of wisdom from someone of faith, if we were talking in a "religious" context.

Outside, of religion, when I speak with people, I may have received valuable words of wisdom, but I also would not know whether that person was someone of faith or not...

Rarely ever have I received words of wisdom from those of the Christian faith that haven't sounded like either idle optimism or the same, impractical adages I have heard since kindergarten. I have received words of wisdom from those of the Buddhist faith, but we, as a nation, are largely lacking in any profundity.

Oh yes.

I'd recommend anyone to chew over some of C S Lewis' essays and talks.
Even if you end up disagreeing, you'll have had a very decent mental workout establishing why.

"The Abolition of Man", perhaps, or "The Funeral of a Great Myth."

Sure, i like the ways of religion better than athieism, I just dont belive in them. People of faith have a lot of uplifting things to say.

Gotta love the "love all human beings" coverage that gets thrown down the drain.... I even have gained lots of emails from Christians bashing me and any comments i'm going to have. i visit in specific situations respond yet in many cases I merely delete them. I even have sent a pair messages, yet they have been real questions asked in a consultant way. no longer in basic terms senseless rambling approximately how stupid they're.

One said that 2 + 2 = 4.

It turned out to be true. A rare case, I might add.

Yes I have, but few and far between. Most Xians would rather condemn me to hell instead of helping a fellow humanoid brother. The most sound words of wisdom I've ever received came from Atheists.

Yeah this is succinct and true. If people are religious it doesn't mean they are stupid.
