I have had this test many times - it was required every other year when i was a kid. The TB skin test is usually given with a very small syringe, just under the skin. The shot stings a little for a minute or two, but it doesn't really hurt. The shot location might also itch a little over the next day or so. You return to the doctor a few days after the shot to see if the skin reacts to the shot. A reaction indicates that you have been exposed to TB.

It may sting from the alcohol skin prep, and the tiny needle stick, but it's not painful. The nurse will draw up a tiny amount of the skin test solution, using a small syringe with a tiny( baby fine ) #27 gauge needle, and pierce just under the skin, inject the solution to make a tiny bubble, and its done. You go back in 48-72 hours so she can "read" the results. This test is not diagnostic for active TB,a positive test means you've been exposed to the germ. Take care. SW RNP In regards to answer # 1,TB is not a virus, its a germ(bacteria)#2,they don't inject you with the virus for testing, its a purified protein derivative.#3,And there is no shots to prevent TB.

I had one last year...it only hurts when the nurse pokes you with the needle to inject the tb virus...then you have to go back to the clinic and they will check to see if you've developed a bump(thats not a good thing-it means your no longer protected by the vaccine, and you'll need a booster shot) but if there isnt a bump your fine.

it's a PPD they inject a fluid in you body to see if you have a reaction i think 72hrs later you return to have it read it you have a reaction which is a bump on your arm the will measure it see how large it is. If its 10mm or more you will need a chest x-ray to see if there are any spors in you lungs. they will then determine if your tb is active or inactive if inactive you might recieve pills called INH which you will take once daily for 6-9 mths...and have a x-ray and PPD again to see if all is well.
But if it is active i have no idea what they do but i do know you take a variety of pill's daily

no pain. they use a needle to put some liquid under your skin and you go home. if the liquid makes your skin red and itchy and makes a hard bump than its a positive result and you call the doc back. other wise the liquid just goes away and thats that. very simple and painless.
