The quality of food a cat eats has alot to do with the quality of the fur.
Soft fur results from keeping kitty indoors, away from all the dirt, dust, and elements from outdoors.
Brushing and an occasional bath will soften it.
A good quality food will almost always result in a shiny soft coat. This won't happen overnight, but after a few weeks, there would be a noticeable difference if kitty is currently on cheaper food.
If unsure, ask expert at a Petco or Petsmart or specialty food store. Avoid the less expensive Purina (don't get me wrong, Purina is still a good mid-grade food) and defiantly avoid the cheap generic brands. Too many fillers (eg. corn meal) and not enough real meat product in the food.

LOL sorry but had to laugh at the "troll doll" analogy!!

Their coats are a direct reflection of what you feed them. What foods does kitty eat? Mine eat Merrick's canned foods and Royal Canin for Persians. I also add a squirt of Grizzly Salmon Oil daily. Their coats feel like soft bunnies!!

A lot to do with the softness is also combing out the dead undercoat. To do this use a quality steel comb - NOT a brushes. Brushes should never be used on Persian coats. If you need more help you can email me through my profile :)

What kind of food are you feeding? Dry? Canned? What brand? Higher quality food should give a softer coat.

After given a bath (optional) take about a fourth cup of bran and scatter it on her fur. Let it sit for a moment or two then brush it out with a slicker brush. It not only makes the fur shine but it also makes it soft and silky.

Put a little bit of olive oil in her food. IOr Glavaderm drops, it's a vitamin for cats especially for their fur.

try getting cod-liver oil capsules from the grocery store (in the herb section) and breaking them over her food once a day, the oil works from inside her body, and makes her coat soft and shiny.

Better food.

Feed a good quality canned food and your cat's coat and other things will improve.

Also daily grooming.

On my troll dolls I shampoo their hair with egg yolks mixed with mayo, that really softened them up. I have a big collection and I take them to bingo with me for good luck.

I would look at what you are feeding her. Often it can be the food that is causing that. Call your vet and find out what kind of products they have. I know my vet sells stuff you add to their food that works great.

Good luck!
