I just started taking lessons and my instuctor got me a beggingers set. I have no idea what any are used for except the putter. They are Kathy Whitworth square 2, don't really know if thats good or bad. Ok, so I have these smaller ones that are different angles, they have a 6, 7, 8, 9, and P. What do I use these for? I think I used the 6 to hit on the driving range, I have no clue? Also, I have 4 with covers, thy have tags on them that say 1, 3, 7, 9. I think the big one I should use on the driving range, but then why did I use the ones without a cover on the driving range? I'm very lost , if anyone could explain this to me it would be great!!!! And also why do I need so many different ones? Thanks so much!!!!

This is a get question for a beginner to ask...And for those of you that are laughing at her, go to hell, and keep your mouth shut!

Question 1: What do the number mean?
I am going to give you a very simple answer: The higher the number the shorter it will go.

Example: A 5 iron with go farther than a 6 iron, a 6 iron will go father than a 7, etc...

Question 2: What clubs should I hit on the range?
All of them. The reason you Instructor is have you hit the 6 iron so much is to help you develop the fundamental of your swing, stance, and grip.

Question 3: Why are there 14 clubs in my bag?
Because each club will be for a different distance.

Question 4: Are Square 2 any good?
Yes there are great for beginners and women. This set should last for you a long time. They are clubs that can grow with you as you get better.

Wow, you paid an instructor and he didn't explain any of this to you? I would recommend a switch.

Golf is a game of accuracy and distance. Each club has a different loft and the key is to figure out how far you hit each club.

The driver or 1 wood, will be the longest and biggest club in your bag and you should hit it the furthest. That would be followed by the 3, 5 wood (some people have a 4 wood). Woods are the clubs with the big head (they used to be made of wood) and irons are the thinner metal clubs. A normal set is 1, 3 and 5 woods and 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 iron and pitching wedge (PW). The lower the number on the iron or wood the smaller degree of loft it has and the further it goes.

For instance, I hit my 8 iron 150 yards and I there is a 10 yard disance in between clubs. Therefore, I hit my 7 iron 160, my 6 iron 170 and so on. Keep in mind these are my distances and you'll have to figure yours out on the range.

When you are playing golf club selection is key. If you have 180 yards to the green you need to use the club you hit 180 yards. Keep in mind the ball will go further from the fairway (the short grass) then it will from the rough (long grass) and you should choose your club accordingly.

Hope this helps.

6-9 are irons they are used for teeing off on par 3's and your second and third shots on par 4's and par 5's. The p is a pitching wedge it is used for shorter shots and also a lot of people use it out of the rough. The ones with covers are your woods they are usually used out of the fairway for longer shots. When you learn how to play a little better you will actually need more clubs than what you have. The different clubs will help you hit the ball farther or shorter depending on the club. The lower the number on the club the farther you should be able to hit it. Also woods hit farther than irons.

Square 2's are good to start with. 6,7,8,9 n P are your irons. 6-9 irons and a pitching wedge (you use 6 for farther distances and work your way toward P as you get close to the hole. 1,3,7,9 are you woods. 1 is called a Driver, and you use this when you tee off at the beginning of most par 4 and 5 holes. The 3,7,9 are fairway woods. They are for far distance shots You only use these when you are comfortable hitting off the fairway without a tee. You should never start golfing by just hitting your driver, you want to be able to use the other clubs (you will only use a driver about 12-15 shots in 18 holes of golf). You need so many because you need to be able to hit the ball different distances without having to change your swing. Good luck.

golfing golf equipment have 2 significant effective factors that rapidly effect how a ways and how extreme the ball will go while hit wisely with each and each club. What you're finding at interior the representation is an entire set of golfing golf equipment, alongside with the woods and the irons. commencing up on the left are the timber golf equipment (larger heads) numbered from a million timber, 3 timber, 5 timber and seven timber. Progressing the irons (smaller heads), commencing from the left, are the three iron, 4 iron, 5 iron, 6 iron, 7 iron, 8 iron, 9 iron, 10 iron, and 11 iron (additionally elementary because of the fact the sand wedge). word that there is a difference in length of one-0.5 inch between each and each club interior the set. bear in mind out of your extreme college physiccs classification that the longer lever, the greater suitable the strain? it somewhat is okay in case you do not bear in mind, because of the fact i'm reminding you presently. With an prolonged club, making use of an identical quantity of capability, you have got the means to generate greater club head velocity. the end result would be an prolonged shot. Going decrease back to extreme college physics lower back, the loft of the club face will confirm the attitude at which the ball bounces off the club face. image the extension of the magnet on the club face as representing the preliminary flight of the ball.

Your irons range from a 3 iron to pitching wedge hence the P
the lower number on the club the father you'll hit the ball.
Example 3 Iron will go aprox. 200 yards and Piching wedge will go 75 yards. Same with drivers. Hope this helps

wow uh LOL. dont worry. i was just as clueless as you were a year ago. all i have to say, you just have to get a coach and take lessons. there's no way you can know just from reading a book/manual or whatever.

when i started, i embarrassed myself by hitting my driver on the fairway because i thought one of the other girls were hitting a driver too but turns out it was a wood. LOL. all i can say is, save yourself the embarrassment and take lessons =P hehe
