My guess is that the letters represent words rather than numbers. I can't think of any particular list of sequential words beginning with those letters, however.

Think along these guidelines. If the question were "What's next in this series,?" MAMJJA, the correct answer would be "S" as those letters represent months beginning with March. The answer is something like that.
