The breeder of my cats believes in the policy of early spaying and neutering, though I would urge you to contact your vet and gain their opinion.
There is no magic age, just a minimum weight on when you can get your pet spayed.

you should generally get a cat spayed or neutered at approximately 6 months of age. Some people will do it sooner which is ok but not as young as 5 weeks. They are not even supposed to be away from their mother until 8 weeks old. It is way too early. Between 4 and 6 months. They will generally sexually mature at 6 months so do not let it outside until it is spayed. You can do a Google search for pet health care sites or call a vet. There are low cost spay and neuter clinics as well. For now, just let the kitten be a kitten and enjoy its mom.

My husband and I just got a kitten through an adoption program that works with our local humane society. He was 8 weeks when we got him and already nuetered. The lady there told us that it really depends on the vet - some are willing to work with them that young, and others don't like to. I would wait until she's at least 12 weeks, and call around to some different vets and see if you can find one that will work with you.

Five weeks? Um yeah.. WAY too early. The standard time is six months and older.. a five week kitty hasn't fully developed yet, so spaying her now would be dangerous and irresponsible. Contact your vetrinarian, they can give you all the information you need.

Cats can be safely spayed anytime between 4 to 8 months. Keep in mind that they can go into heat between 6 months to a year. It is entirely up to you as to when to get it spayed but I recomend doing it before she goes into heat. They are a pain when they do - they howl and back up to everything that shows them attention, not to mention try to get out.
Good Luck!

Usually with a female you need to wait until at least 8 months. Spaying is major surgery. Usually she will not go into heat until about 8 mo - 1 year.
% weeks is far too early, at this point she should not even be separated from her mother.

they really like to wait till they are 6 months of age and this is because there glands are not formed all the way until 6 months and the surgery could be a waste.

i have always been told that kittens have to be at least 12 to 14 weeks old to get fixed. please check with your local vet to find out for sure. you may be interested in finding a low cost or no cost spay/nuder program in your area. good luck.
