I don't treat Deity as though it was a favor dispensing machine. Insert so many prayers and OUT comes your favor. When I pray it's a simple conversation with Deity. I offer thanks for the blessings that have been given to me and just wish a good day to deity, tell her my problems and share how my day went. If I want somethng, I work for it or if I can't get it after working for it and still need it, I'd consider doing a spell. but most often hard work will get me waht I need.

For me, praying is a lot more than asking for anything. I pray my thanks to God for every meal, for example.
When I ask, I keep in mind that I must ask for what is God's will. So no, I never have an "absolute knowingness" that whatever I'm asking for will happen. I leave it to Him, because He's God and I'm not.
During all the years my husband and I were going through infertility, I prayed often for a child and I gave Him zillions of reasons for giving us a child (ha - like He needed them!), but I also acknowledged that we might not have a child ever, and if that was the case, I prayed that God would use this struggle of ours for His glory and to further His purposes on earth.
In the end, we did have a baby (three, actually), but I am still asking God to help me use those years of struggling to further His will.

Prayer work is like spell work. I try to never beg, it does no good and makes me feel helpless. I do more like a visualization of what I want to happen, and then i take the steps to make it happen. If it is for something out of my control, I meditate, not pray.

You have a lot of good replies here, and I will just toss in this one thought: prayer can be a dialogue with God. There is a famous nun who once said that when we get to heaven we will spend 50% of our time thanking God for NOT answering all of our prayers. I do believe God will make available to us what we need, even if we do not realize it. May God bless you and keep you.

When I pray it is not begging, it is more like searching myself for the power I need for whatever I want to do.

I ask God to let me pray according to His will. And if I pray according to His will and His will will always be done then my prayers will always come true, no?

when I pray - I go in with the absolute knowledge that God will do His will in the situation, and believe that His will is perfect.

prayer is pointless. its about as useful as wishing on a star.
*shrug*
if u want something try working for it, like the rest of us, and stop being lazy.
in the same sense, i could pray to odin and get the exact same results as u praying to your god. =]

I suppose it depends on what I want. But done right, I have little doubt of it working or not. I do little spell work though. :) I usually ask for blessings and guidance. I KNOW that is so.

I just pray like I'm talking to my Father...I let Him know how I feel what I want what I feel like I need...I ask Him for help with something in my life at that moment...et cetera
