If you have signed the opt-out form with the school for your child not to be contacted, how else are they obtaining our phone number, my Child's name, and specifics of what grade they are currently in (this I mention, as when caller ID came up US Goverment, they asked for what could be both Father/Son), I asked can you give me a middle inital, and he said the one whom well be a Senior this year. (This after I ask whom is calling, with the caller ID, and tried to pass themself off as a friend, it's Jonathan, didn't admit with whom, till I told them, um.....came up US Goverment on my end, Jonathan, then he states, the military). After I told him, I signed the Opt-Out Form (from beginning of Jr. Year), and ask to take my phone number off the list of my 16 yr old son. How else are they obtaining contact information, if not from the school?

Please don't think I'm not patriotic, support my country, I have a nephew deployed now in Ramadi, fighting day and night. I want the calls stopped.

Mrsjvb, He didn't sign a form otherwise to negate a thing, Im sure if he had answered the phone he would have said No Thanks, (I-me) want them to stop, sorry to fail to read question correctly*sigh*
Army girl- And just where does the state and federal funding come from? Overseas, who are you trying to kid? Your thinking is warped to think the goverment should have full control to do whatever they wish, and to minors, you make me ill with your thoughts, Am I scared he might join? If its he's wish at an adult age, I will support him, just as I do my nephew-are his parents scared? You bet your life, each and every night and day that he is over there, so some smart *** 4yr *look at me I served* can have the freedom to type in asinine answers to questions like mine. But I'm well aware, that all the branches are lowering their standards to meet quota, yours is a classic example case.

It's the government. You are expecting the paper shuffle to run like a Swiss watch? First you relied on the government school to put in the form properly. You then expected it to go thru 2-4 other hands before being put on a list that goes to the recruiters.

Refill, refile.

All your son has to do is tell them he is not interested in joining the military. They should stop calling. I'm not really sure I believe you when you say, they acted like they were a friend of your son's. A recruiter usually gets right to the point and they have no reason to lie to you about who they are. Personally I think opt out forms are a crock. If your child is attending a public school that recieves funds from state and federal sources why shouldn't a recruiter be able to contact your child?? Are you scared your child might want to join?

How screwy can the government get?

I got a notice that I failed to register for the Draft just before I turned 25. It threatened me with federal charges if I didn't go to the Post Office and sign up right away. The joke was it was addressed to me by NAME, RANK and Unit onboard a deployed ship in the Persian Gulf! I had already been on active duty for over six years at that point!

So, just laugh it off and hang up the phone. You don't owe them anything.

if your son filled out a form on his own, either at school or elsewhere, that negates the opt out and they can still contact him.

If your son doesn't wish to be contacted, it is HIS responsibility to make that known..
