Ok, I'm not one of those shallow little ditzy teens who are all "Oh my god I need to like lose some weight before school cause I'm like, not skinny." I'm actually overweight and I want to diet and exercise for my heath in the future. I know how to eat right and all of the rules with it, but I don't know exactly what I should do to help my anemia. My mother is just retarded and refuses to buy me my prescription for an iron supplement (sorry Mom, but come on). I've been taking Vitamin C to help with metabolizing my iron, but this has never been enough and it seems I just always remain anemic (I have been since birth).

Any tips on motivation to eat right and eating for my anemia are greatly appreciated. I'm willing for this to take a while, the main issue is that I get to my healthy weight. My boyfriend already did some research for me but I want to get as many opinions as possible.

The Stats:
Age: 16
Height: 5' 4"
Weight:152 lbs
Vitamin C Intake: 500mg/12 hours

With anemia, the body doesn't have enough red blood cells or they are not big enough to transport oxygen from your lungs to your body cells. Hemoglobin, made with iron, is the part of red blood cells that carries oxygen to other tissue. Without enough oxygen body cells cant produce enough energy. Then fatigue, pale skin, headache, weakness, lack of concentration, irritability among other symptoms may set in. To produce enough healthy red blood cells, you need enough iron in your diet as well as enough folate and vitamin B12.
You can get iron supplement over the counter in any pharmacy as well as other vitamins.
Make sure you have daily in your diet - meat, fish, poultry, eggs, milk, milk products, leafy veggies, fruit, legumes, liver.

Eat lots of green vegetables especially leafy vegetables. Take Dexorange tonic (I think you can get it over the counter without a prescription). Ferrum Phos 6X tablets available in homeopathy medical stores also help.

Anemia needs to be corrected if you want to lose weight.

If you mom won't fill your iron prescription call up your docs office and ask to speak to his nurse, Tell her what is going on and ask her to have the doc call your mother and talk to her, You have got to get on those iron supplements ASAP so please look up the clinic number and ask to talk to your doctors nurse. If she still refuses to pick up your iron tabs even after the doc talks to her then you will have to do it yourself. Take a cab or have a friend drive you to the drug store to get your script filled. Anemia is NOT something to be taken lightly as it is a very very serious condition.

EAT FOODS RICH IN VITAMIN B12 BUT IN MODERATION YOU ALSO NEED A WELL BALANCE DIET OF FOODS FROM THE FOOD PYRAMID. EAT ORGANIC/HOMEMADE FOODS ONLY AND BUY A WATER FILTER, JUICER AND BLENDER. 6 MEALS A DAY, 8 HOURS OF SLEEP/ GO BACK TO YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANYMORE QUESTIONS, BUT DO NOT FALL FOR THE PILL SCAM.
