That's right. And this is just one of the *many* reasons why Jesus didn't qualify for the position of Messiah. His father MUST be descended from David. Not his mother, his FATHER.

It is ONLY the father that passes down the Tribal lineage in Judaism, not the mother.

The mother passes down being Jewish itself, NOT tribal lineage. The father passes down tribal lineage only.

Mary's lineage is completely irrelevant. Nor can an adopted son qualify legally as being from the tribe of Judah for the purposes of being descended from David. It MUST be by blood, not by adoption, for the position of Messiah.

Just as a child adopted cannot assume the position of Kohen (Priest), but this also MUST be by blood, direct blood descendant.

The Messiah having God for a father and a virgin for a mother is ancient paganism and has never existed in Judaism. The Church has lied for centuries, twisting and back-engineering their mistranslations into our Torah in order to make it appear so, to their followers, but it has never existed. The word there is not "betulah" which means virgin, but "almah" which means young woman. All women who gave birth then were young women (except Sarah). The word for virgin (betulah) is used several times throughout the Torah where it always means virgin, and this is NOT the word that is used in the Isaiah verse that the Church lies about and teaches that it says "virgin". It does not.

Recently, science has verified through DNA testing the Torah law that it is the father who passes down the Tribal Lineage. Pretty interesting. The tribes of Levi, Judah, Benjamin, and about 3 others (last time I looked, there might be more now) have been located by testing the Y sex Chromosome on Jewish men.

The Kohen Gene has been found - the Kohanim are the Jewish priests. The families of the Priests have always kept their own records and the community has always known who the Priests are.

DNA testing results showed that 75% of the men tested who had the family tradition of being Kohanim, were positive. Here is a bit about the Kohanim. Most Christians are incorrectly taught that nobody knows who the Jewish priests are today, that the records were destroyed when the Temple was destroyed - this is not true. The records were never kept in the Temple.

If you'd like to see the Kohanim doing the Priestly Blessing (Birkat Kohanim) at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, as they do every year, please go here:

The prayer is:
"May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord let His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord look kindly upon you and give you peace."

As well, the "Jewish Gene" itself has also been discovered, and guess where that is. Only the FEMALE can pass it down. That is, being Jewish itself. NOT tribal lineage.

The Jewish Gene is found in the mitochondrial DNA of Jewish women. She can pass this down to both her sons and her daughter *but only her daughters can continue to pass it down.* The sons cannot. For the sons to have Jewish children by birth, they MUST marry a Jewish woman. So we see that science has finally caught up with the Torah on these. I'd refer you to Mr. Bennett Greenspan of Family Tree DNA and Dr. Michael Hammer at the University of Arizona, among others, for further information.

For information on the ACTUAL prophecies regarding the Messiah as given on Mt. Sinai, of which there are only about 16, (rather than the literally hundreds of false ones that the Christian Church has tried to "back engineer" into the text in order to further their agenda of a pagan human virgin blood sacrifice god-man) please see:

If the mother is Jewish, then so is the child according to Judaism. It goes through Mary's bloodline and she is descended from the line of David. There is also the possibility that Mary and Joseph were cousins of some sort.

Ok, you want to talk tribal lineage? We are all created by God. He is the father of everyone so he would also be the start of the line of David. Jesus is The Messiah, the Son of God. Can't get any better than that can you?

God Bless.

As a previous poster noted, Mary probably was a descendant of David. As the Gospels tell us, Joseph definitely was a descendant of David, and, although Jesus was not the natural son of Joseph, He was the legal son of Joseph. Thus, people would have known Him as a descendant of David, which was important because the Scriptures foretold that the Messiah would be a descendant of David.

They're either going to tell you that he is descended in the proper line through Mary, or that he is descended by adoption through Joseph. Neither explanation is viable according to the rules of the Hebrew culture, but that's what will be offered up to you. This is a detail that is typically skipped over by apologists when discussing the supposed "fulfilled prophecies" of Jesus.

Mary is also believed to of the tribe of David. Remember Jewish heritage is matrilineal: it is passed through the mother's line.

ADD: Neither Mary's nor Joseph's family lines are definitely established.
Some traditions (Apocrypha) identify Joseph as an old widower who already had children (possibly by Mary's older sister) and took Mary on more like a daughter then a wife.

ADD ADD: According to tradition (Apocrypha) Mary's parents were named Joachim and Anne (Hannah). Since Mary was supposed to be Immaculate (not just a virgin, but totally without sin) some of the traditions (not canon) have Anne giving virgin birth.

Mary also decended from David. Joseph and Mary were cousins. (Check out your NT geneologies)

Technically, Jesus doesn't have the credentials to be the Jewish Messiah. There are more technicalities than this in the lineage that automatically disqualify Jesus from the position, in addition to the things the Jewish Messiah was supposed to actually DO while he was on earth. But I digress, your gripes are valid.

Got your point; but have you ever thought about how generations progressed after Adam & Eve??? (If you know the story) Doesn't this story indicate incest with one's own sister??? Is it logical at all??? If it's true then, how do you clarify genetic makeovers across continents & races???
