I don't really know a whole lot about the heat cycle of dogs, because All of my female pets are spayed. It is not called a period, it is called a heat cycle, I think it happens every 6 months, and lasts a few weeks. You can buy doggie diapers from the pet store to help with the blood. If you are going to keep her, you should talk to your vet and ask how soon you can get her spayed. That way you won't have to deal with the mess, and you won't have to worry about unwanted puppies. Good Luck!

When you take the dog into the vet for a medical exam you can talk to them about spaying her, and you can also ask them how much it will cost. I'm so glad you are helping out this poor stray dog!!!

Females go into estrus, or heat, every six to seven months. It will last 10 - 14 days. You can buy pads that can be tied on, but of course most dogs don't want them on so rip them off. It is far better for the dog if you can have them spayed or neutered. "For females, pregnancy and whelping can have long-term negative effects on her personality, threaten her heath, and even lead to death." Also male dogs can be real dogs when trying to get to a female in season.
PS depending on where you live the spca sometimes has lower priced or free spaying available.

They do get periods, you can get some sort of pads in teh pet store, I don't know how often though. It's not like human periods, I mean the blood involved is just some drops. But you must spay her anyway, because otherwise she will produce more unweanted puppies and her life and yours will be miserable. Plus she is in danger of pyometra, cancer, etc. if she is not spayed. So just spay her and you won't worry about anything like that any more.

yes female dogs will bleed, they only come into their heat every six months. The bleeding will last several days. There are doggie diapers for that sort of thing but if you are going to keep here i would sugest you get her fixed. This would prevent any accidental litters if she was to get out and bred. If she was a stray she may have already been fixed, but you may not be able to tell. you cant see my dogs scar on her belly anymore . Hope this helps

Get her spayed and you don't have to worry about it. For dogs it's not called periods, it's called in heat. They get them twice every year and they tend to last for 3 weeks.

Get her spayed. End of issue.

They have a "heat" (season) cycle approximately every 6 months. Some bleed more than others.

You don't know her heritage or background... get her spayed.

WOW.. Get her spayed.. If you can't do a search and at least find out a little on your own.. You shouldn't have an intact female at all. Get her spayed and don't even worry about it.
