God sent Jesus because Mithras wasn't winning wars for the Greeks and Romans the way he used to. They needed a new mascot, not necessarily a new religion, but definitely a new mascot. Hence, all the same holidays, just a different reason to celebrate them.

Because you are human. There is only one God who has unfolded himself in history in three offices, manifestations or revelations.
The Holy Spirit which fills Christians today is the same Jesus who was the tree of life in the Garden of Eden. The same who walked the ground in Israel 2,000 years ago. That Jesus is the same I Am who spoke to Moses in the burning bush. He was the Pillar of Fire which led Israel; the same blinding light that appeared to St. Paul and the same fire that fell at Pentecost. The same Jesus who abides with me.
None of the Apostles or early Christians believed or taught a trinity. Still it took three years and some days before those 120 followers came to the full understanding of who Jesus really was. The Word, the creator, made flesh. This was the revelation that St. John the beloved saw long before others.
There is a Catholic picture of a Jesus with a heart exposed. More to the point; that Jesus was the exposed heart of God; The essence of a Saviour God projecting from the heart of the eternal Father, strong to save. This has been turned inside out and upside down into a trinity and a saviour mother.
Knowing who Jesus is, is the difference between having power with God and being a victim to superstition. You might think about it this way. The life of man is in the blood. He will go to blood revenge for the slightest injustice, for gain, for sex, for power.
So much has been said of a holy God; that most forget that it was man who needs the blood. God needs perfection. A temple sacrifice to a degree ausuaged guilt and set away vengence. It provided a central meeting place; a packing and inspection plant and more. For all that, God set up to show the plan of redemption over history.
While sacrifice was needed under the law, prior to Christ Jesus; the sacrifices of God have always been a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart. This is made clear time after time in the Old Testament. And in the New Testament, as Jesus taught: Except ye become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter the kingdom of heaven.
He did not create a human God; but prepared a body for himself and walked a mile or so in our shoes. We live and move and have our being in him. He can manifest in many ways; even speak through your worst enemy.
Many people have rejected God's ways from the beginning. After all he should have held a rock concert and passed out tickets; had a cosmic light show and fireworks. Invitations in gold, free T-shirts; thousands of special guests. He should have invited presidents and kings. Instead he walked with those who responded to his call; outside pomp and politics.
Certainly the creator of the Cosmos would not stoop to this!?

You've got it all wrong! Listen, "In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God." ~John 1:1. The Word is Jesus Christ. The Lord our God made the ultimate sacrifice (his Son, Jesus) so the world may be forgiven of its sins. Jesus died for us because He loves us, believe it or not, and He endured unimaginable pain, being whipped, beaten, persecuted, mocked, ripped apart by metal rods and torture tools, and crucified. But don't make a mistake; He isn't dead. He is more alive now than ever before.
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16.
As for the Holy Trinity, you need to read the Bible more and pray, and I don't care how strange I sound or what you think of me or the Lord for it.
"As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." ~Matthew 3:16-17. This passage describes the Holy Trinity; Jesus rising from the water, the Holy Spirit (Spirit of God) descending upon Him as a dove, and God (the voice from heaven). God is three beings in One; the Holy Spirit, through which He guides people. Jesus, through which He forgives people. And God, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the ultimate One. The Trinity is a bit difficult to explain, but one comes to understand after a certain amount of time and devotion and prayer and Bible-reading.

Christianity IS monotheistic. Take an egg: You have a shell, a white and a yolk. They are all "egg" but have different purposes/characteristics. Same with God/Jesus/Spirit God did not "create" a human, Jesus gave up His divinity in order to save ALL mankind from sin by being the ultimate sacrifice. The O.T. animals sacrifice were a prelude to Jesus' sacrifice, who sacrificed Himself for ALL mankind (not just the Jews, who performed the animals sacrifices commanded by God). The sacrifices had to be perfect, without spot or blemish. Jesus was God, so only He could make that final sacrifice for ALL. No other religion has God sacrificing Himself in order to save mankind from sin.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

jesus purpose was to provide salvation, and by being born in the human form, this was possible. and we are a monotheistic religion. there is only one god. some people just believe that there are the three versions of the same god. the Father, the original; the Son, when god sent himself to Earth; and the Holy Spirit, who we can have a relationship with while on earth.

First off, if I can say this without sounding condescending, I appreciate your courteous and respectful question. Not all Atheists are as kind.
Anyway, God sent Jesus to earth to be born and live as a human because we are all human. To live as one of us, yet be without sin, was how He could die as a human for all of our sins. Then be raised up to heaven. So when we believe in Jesus, we are baptized into Him (as if dying), and then being born-again when we rise up from the water.
Re. the three entities, someone mentioned an egg example, which I hadn't heard before but thought it very good. My mom helped me understand this way: Take water. You can find it in three forms, solid (ice), liquid (water), or gas (steam). They're all water, just different forms of water.
Hope all that made sense and helps.

it seems that we ask and don't understand who Jesus was.
Jesus was a man who embodied the Christ (God) with self realization hard work and sacrifice. You can only go to the father(God) through Christ not Jesus but Jesus was no longer Jesus after he became the Christ. Man Why do I feel like you guys need to read about Gnosis any way. The three powers or entities Jesus through super hard work and with the help of a woman embodied first the holy spirit with the baptism by John the baptist than on the cross he embodied the Christ when his body became one with Gods and it was all done Jesus cosmic drama was over and he did it all for us.

Well...
There are laws that even God follows. One of them is the law of justice. If we came down here and did something we shouldn't have, we have te recieve the punishment. Christ was punished for us so we wouldn't have to be. (Otherwise we could never return to live with God because "no unclean thing can dwell in the presence of God.")
There are three seperate and distinct beings in the godhead. They are not all the same person at all. (They all have the same purpose, which is what was being spoken of in the Bible. Read John 10 where He says ther're all one and then read John 17 where He says that He wants all the Apostles to be one with Him as He is one with God. Unless the Apostles were going top merge into Him...hmmm...I doubt it...God and Christ are serparate.)
Christ had to be born human because we all had to do that. He came down here and lived without sin. That's what allowed Him to perform The Atonement. That way He could still take all our sins on Him and still remain clean...

You don't ask light questions. I certainly am not qualified to answer this but will do my best to share what I was taught and have come to believe.
Jesus was born of man to fulfill the promise made by God that the Messiah would come to free his people from the burden of original sin and show the path to which they could achieve the Kingdom of Heaven.
Is the Holy Trinity three separate entities or merely different aspects of the same being taught to us to make the complexities of our Faith more understandable? I don't know there are thousands of books written on the subject and I encourage you to read some and ask those people of faith in your life, regardless of what church they attend their opinion.
For me and my understand of it we have God the Father. the old testament God powerful and all seeing yet distant to some. God the Son ... born of man to walk among us and show us our path to enlightenment and introduce us to the power of love. There wasn't allot of love your neighbor in the old testament. As I stated before this was the answer to a long made promise to His people.
God the Holy spirit or Ghost..... reminds us of the resurrection and the promise of things to come.
Interestingly not all Christen based Faiths believe in the holy Trinity so your in good company.
I don't know if this helped at all but as I said there are better people then I to answer this question.
Beyond the answer I hope, if you don't already have it, I hope you find Faith.

Because Adam was God's earthly son that he created and he was perfect.Someone had to be equal to him in perfection to be offered for us as a sacrifice because everything got mixed up.People say that Adam and Eve messed up but they were misled by Satan to do so,so they they werent the only ones at fault.Jesus was God's heavenly son,his only begotten son and was also perfect.Jesus wanted to sacrifice himself,he was the only one that was equal in perfection and he was also created by God and was his son.In heaven he was named Michael because he was the arch angel. He was the first God had created. He was named Jesus when he came to earth because in bible prophecy it was said that the messiah was comming but no one knew when and they waited years and years and some didnt believe it because the had little or no faith, the thing they knew was that they will no him when they see him.His name was chosen as jesus because the name "Jesus" meant "messiah". He was the only one who could hav done it, He was in a higher position than all the other angels.

ok...
God came to earth as a man in order to suffer what we suffer. Temptation of sin, hunger, loneliness, thirst, etc... Jesus (God in flesh) lived a perfect life in God's (the father's) eyes. Jesus was crucified to pay for our sins. Being that he lived perfectly, His Crucifiction (which is the worst way to go) paid the debt owed by us being that God's word says if you break one commandment, you have broken ALL commandemnts. Therefor all sin is punishable by death. Yet God loves you soo much, that He chose to come to earth as a man and offers you His "Perfection" for your imperfection. You are not forced to take this free gift. You are only offered it. If you want it, it's yours.
As much as I hate to use the word "religion", Christianity is the only religion that states "No matter what you do, you will NEVER be good enough to get to heaven. A real life relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way".
Here's a great site that can give lots of understanding.
