He decided that man would not live longer than 120 year.

A. Many early cultures measured time by moon years. In warmer climates, an unusually warm Winter, or an unusual cool Summer made sun years confusing. The moon never varied, it was dependable, so they used moon years.
999 moon years are seventy-seven sun years. Still quite old for those days.
