It only means your human -- if you make a lot of them it may mean you think faster than you read or write (an active mind is a good thing).

If someone makes a big deal about it means that person is judgmental and superficial.

Everyone does commit typos. However, it's hard to tell the difference between a simple "fat fingering" and outright misspelling. Misspelling doesn't mean you're uneducated either. Some people just don't spell well. However, if you have misspelling coupled with bad grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. then you are approaching being a recipient of the "uneducated and ignorant" label.

Well sometimes it can like if you were making a court document and you weren't an attorney. But usually it means that you typed to fast, weren't paying attention while you were typing usually a typo means you're being careless. However, it is best if you make as few typos as possible because the less typos you have the more intelligence it shows.

No, people make typos, but some of them could be found by using the check spelling feature. Also, I try to proofread before I submit. Sometimes a typo can change the meaning of an entire question or answer.

Typos do NOT mean you are uneducated. However, in the wrong context, they imply that you are uneducated (or are, at least, careless or lazy). Typos are OK in IM, sometimes OK in emails (personal/friends) (not business related if possible), and not OK in formal letters. In other words, if it's important (like a resume, cover letter, letter to a company, email to your college professor, etc...) always check for typos if you have time. ESPECIALLY if it's your first time contacting that person. Hey, it's your first impression on them.

Nope, they don't.

I make typos and even outright spelling errors all the time, and I don't always catch them all before submitting my posts. Yet, I am highly educated, and I even generally do well when when my writing is evaluated. (Granted, I have much lower standards for writing I do on the internet.)

Some of the best-educated people I know (Ph.D.s and Ph.D. candidates) come off as terrible writers when they bang out quick emails or internet posts.

Also, many errors that look to the reader like grammatical errors are often merely typos. This is because our brains are programmed to remember procedures, such as typing common strings of letters. (When I say they are programmed, I mean we learn through practice.) This is why I can type numbers related to my bank account number very quickly, yet I am much slower when I have to type unfamiliar numbers.

It also means I sometimes type the wrong word. For instance, my brain does not always distinguish the sounds of the words "there," "their," and "they're." I know how to use each one, but occasionally I'll find that I've typed the wrong one simply because my fingers have been on a sort of autopilot. I'll double back to correct the error when I catch it (which is most of the time), but occasionally a mistake slips through. This doesn't mean I don't know my grammar, but it does mean I'll occasionally make mistakes when I'm typing 60-80 words per minute.

LOL I like that you misspelled typos (you used the possessive incorrectly).

One typo does not an idiot make, but when you see someone misspell 5-6 words in a single sentence, you can be pretty sure they're uneducated.

Typos are different from making errors in speech, grammar, or spelling. If you know the correct word, spelling, etc., then it's a typo and obviously does not show your lack of education. However, if you don't know the correct version, or think you know and have it wrong, that would imply to me that you are less educated or capable of grasping certain elements of the English language.

If you make no effort to use proper grammar and spelling, I would simply consider you an idiot.

Not necessarily. It might mean that you are extremely lazy and don't check over what you type before you send it in...
But I usually equate typos with uneducated people.

If it is any consolation typos are a function of carelessness in my case anyway.... or just finger trouble. Just have a huge problem with the American way of spelling words like favour, labour, honour, plough, metre etc. So if you are not an American I can understand why you have a problem. Sometimes I also forget to do a spell check. Not serious though especially if one can understand what you are saying.

Well...unless it is OVERLY typo-ed, then you may come off as uneducated. However if it is something minor here and there, its just a mistake. Some people type really quickly and don't bother with spell check.
