My little brother had gone outside to get his blanket out of the car, and my neighbor came across the street to ask him if they wouldn't mind if he borrowed our trash can to put a dead deer in. My little brother came in the house and was going to ask my parents and he had already hauled the trash can across the street to put the deer in. Trash day was the next day so we figured that he was going to just let the trash man take it, but he didn't- he put a sign on it that said "For Animal Control, Dead Deer". The deer has been sitting there for 2 days now, and I'm assuming that he did call the animal control to come pick it up, but obviously nobody else has noticed it because it's in our trash can rotting away in the 100 degree heat along with a little bit of trash on the bottom. What would you have done in this situation, and what would you do now because the trash can is going to smell like horrible rotting deer and trash after the animal control comes to pick it up?

My little brother did not give him permisson to take the garbage can...he told him that he was going to ask my parents and he took the trash can anyways. Our city does not allow us to "switch" garbage cans or anything because they all have numbers on them which are assigned to each house and if you don't have the same number trash can then you end up paying for it.

Why did he not use his own trash can? Take his trash can and begin to use it, and leave a note that as soon as they can give back your trash can nice and clean, they can take theirs back.

He was bold enough to take it, or ask a child who can not say yes or no, make him pay for it. Show him you have some substance, if you let him get away with this, he will keep on taking things from you guys. Don't let him do this to you , walk over and tell him you are not going to Be able to used that trash can. Now since it had been used I would like for you to pay me for half of it okay. Not only that you did not talk to an adult about taking it. If he gives you any trouble, just tell him to keep the can and never take anything that belong to you again. He was so wrong to do what he did, sounds like he is mentally challenge.

A parent should approach the neighbor and ask him what his plans are, who he's contacted regarding this, and point out that the trashcan will be unfit for use and that he will be expected to replace it. Chances are they'll just haul off the dead deer, can and all anyways. He should not have done that without asking an adult in the household first. i would've told him, no sorry we need it, you'll have to use your own.

Give your neighbors a polite note which points out they owe you a new trash can.

If the deer is in front of your house, move it to your neighbor's house. Explain you don't want to be fined for the dead animal.

If your little brother is a child, I wouldn't think he was authorized to give permission to your neighbor--it was inappropriate to ask him! In my opinion, your neighbor just got himself an ...Ahem..."new" gargage can, and it belongs in his own front yard. I'd notify my trash company of the ownership change, and why, so you aren't charged for a replacement, and notify city animal control myself. Please don't "assume" your neighbor did that, because he's already demonstrated he's irresponsible. After that, I think the neighbor and I would have a little chat. Good luck.

I would call your city's health officials and complain that your neighbor put a the deer in your trash can and its still there.

Haul it away yourself if you can. Or put it with the neighbor who removed the dead deer in the first place., with his sign and all. Trash can will smell regardless, you could rinse out with bleach, soap and water after its removed.

LOL Doesnt matter what I would have done. Your little brother bears no responsibility for this and neither do you. The ADULT neighbor should have asked an ADULT in your household to do this. Your ADULT neighbor didnt do this becuase he thought the answer UNDERSTANDABLY would have been NO!

Hopefully your parents will go over to this ADULT and tell him that they dont appreciate an ADULT tricking thier CHILD and that your family will use their garbage can or go buy another one and present this supposed ADULT with the bill to replace it.

SOME NEIGHBOR!

I hope this helps

I think it's his responsibility to both make sure the deer is collected and to thoroughly clean and sanitize the trash container after the deer is removed.

I would have had a word with your neighbour, he should have waited for an answer first, explain how horrible it's made your trashcan and how unpleasant it all was. You could try filling your trashcan with water, buying a spray can of air-freshener, unscrewing the spraycan and pouring the contents into the water. Then leave the lid on and wait a while. Hope this helps!
