im 26 and i was diagnosed last year. I woke up every night for like 2 months choking and gasping for air. I never really thought much about it until i realized i was inhaling the acid into my lungs and choking on it. I pretty much eat whatever i want. I have never had the heartburn pain i always get a sharp pain. Just dont eat anything 2 hours before you sleep and take your medicine. My mom has acid reflux and hers is so bad now it developed into barretts which is precancerous. so always take your medicine. My mom found out about her acid reflux to late and to much damage had already happened. take care!

Acid reflux is related to type of food, amount of food and dietary habits. Fatty foods are known to relax the lower esophageal sphincter and induce reflux. Large meals increase stomach acid and cause reflux. The bad habit of eating quickly also results in large food particles which needs more stomach contractions and more acid production that contributes to reflux.
Lifestyle practices have an important role; Smoking, Alcohol, Coffee, Tight clothing and some vigorous Exercises especially associated with bending.
It's not strange to have it at your age.
Prevacid is an effective medication that reduces acid production and relieves heartburn.
In addition you should avoid fatty meals, citrus fruits, tomatoes, raw onion and garlic.
You shouldn't go to bed or have exercise immediately after meals.

No it is not. ANy body can have acid reflux at any age. It basically what you eat that can be the start. I am sure your doctor has discuss with you on what to do about your acid reflux and tips to keep it controlled. Just remember that caffeine and salty foods should be eliminated and any prescription medicines that were given to you should be taken on a regular basis.Stick with bland foods and avoid spices and salts. Also stay away from club soda, chocolate, salty foods. Even alcohol can be the culprit. Best of luck to you and stay on the prevacid!!

Stop taking medicine for it and start drinking about 3 tablespoons of lemon juice in a bottle of water once a day.

I had severe acid reflux for 10 years and accidentally discovered this solution. I was able to stop all meds 3 years ago.

Apparently the problem is the medicine kills off the healthy bacteria in your stomach and creates the severe burning.

Yogurt and Acidophiles replace the healthy bacteria in your body also. But the lemon and water works instantly. I eat whatever I want now. Good Luck.

Acid reflux has been diagnosed in infants. You are not too young to have acid reflux.

Acid reflux causes GERD, gastrotesophageal reflux disease. Your lower esophageal sphincter (LES) (http://www.medicinenet.com/images/illustrations/gastroesophageal_reflux.jpg) does not close properly and stomach acids are forced into your esophagus. The esophagus may become inflamed and erode (erosive esophagitis), resulting in a precancerous condition called Barrett's Esophagus. This may then lead to esophageal cancer. This is why treatment of acid reflux is important.

Prevacid is an effective medication. Most acid reflux medications, unless your esophagus is damaged, will provide relief within 3 weeks. If there is esophageal damage (and you do NOT have to have pain for this to happen), it may take 8 weeks or more.

Read about GERD at http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gerd/DS00967. This article includes ways to treat GERD by diet and exercise.

This is a list of "good" and "bad" foods a gastroenterologist recommends for GERD: http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs03.htm

Even though you may not have GERD now, it may be wise to take medication and modify your diet as if you already do. I have seen people in their 30's die of esophageal cancer from untreated GERD.

no that's not weird for someone your age...i was 17 when i got acid reflux it happened after my gallbladder surgery for some weird reason..i started to notice i couldn't eat certain foods...don't eat anything with acid..for example pasta sauces (tomatoes)...or salad dressings that have alot of peppers (cause burping ) or onions....stay away from spices or seasoning that can irritate the lining of your esophagus...its good that you went to the doctors just remember don't try to mask the acid reflux with over the counter medication like antacids...because they only mask it and a bigger problem can develop later on in your life with isn't something you wanna deal with..eat alot of yogurt and apples

I was diagnosed with it at the age of 18 as well. I take Nexium. The Prevacid didn't work for me. You can eat anything you want as long as your take your meds. It hasn't bothered me since being on meds.

You can eat anything you want. Just be sure to sit up for half an hour after meals and be sure the head of your bed is raised up for sleeping.
