I believe there are a lot of sad and lonely people out there...who see no purpose to their life....so, they cling to the hope that God will return soon to justify their meager existence.
It is kinda the entitlement philosophy...no one wants to work hard anymore...they just want things given to them....likewise, people are lazy...they don't want to deal with the ups and downs of life...or work hard, physically, mentally or spiritually, ..they just want to sit back and wait for the world to end....lazy asses. :-)
I believe many people to be losers in life...and in religion, they feel some kind of power and promise to be something better than they are now....they will be able to walk on streets of gold when in heaven...eventhough, they live in filth in this life.
I am amazed, at how fundamentalist Christians are so obsessed with the end of the world...instead of enjoying the beauty of the creation that has been given to them here on earth.
Your thoughts?

Well...I look forward to the 2nd Coming of Christ. I think I'm excited to seem Him and have all of the really bad stuff in this world stop.
I think a lot of people want it to happen to prove they're right, perhaps. Religion for a lot of people is a passive, unreal thing. most people don't know how to get close enough to The Spirit to recieve guidance and stuff. Kinda boring if you ask me. For most people, prayer is one way now-a-days. I don't know but I'd imagine most people look forward to being proven right, kind of a pride-satisfying thing, I guess.
PS - The world isn't going to end, it's just going to change! :o)

They are also obsessed with hell which leads to their emphasis on punishment and satan rather than Christ and love...but that's for another question. ; )
Remember in their minds, only they are right and everyone else is wrong. Only they are going to Heaven. Only they know the "Truth." That might account for some of it.
Doesn't the Bible speak of the end times and how people will cling to a form of religion, but not real religion? They're living out their own prophesies, perhaps.
God created the world and it's beautiful if you look for the beauty. I prefer to look at the magnificence of a mourning dove or the beauty of a sunset rather than obsess about the end of the world. We should be thankful to God and enjoy what He has given us.

In about 4.5 billion years the Sun will eventually start to burn out, and when it begins the slow process of turning itself into a Supernova, it will burn the face of the earth off and eventually the gravitational forces will tear the earth apart. I think scientists predict that this will constitute the end of the world. Therefore, I believe the scientists are right. Why? Because its happened all over the universe and it has been observed over time, it can be tested and verified.

When people say they want the world to end, they usually aren't thinking about how their wishes affect other people. I think it's strange to gleefully wait for billions of people to die just so a few can enter a mansion in the clouds. Sometimes the people focused on the end of the world are simply lonely and depressed but are afraid to wish for death, thinking that might be a sin. Wishing for the world to end might seem more moral to them. I'm not sure. I think these people should focus more on making this world a better place rather than wish it away for something better.

Well, when I was a Christian, I fit the above description to a tee. I was waiting for the end of the world because I hated my life. I was depressed because of all the condemnation coming my way about everything I said, thought and did, so death looked like an excellent idea. I was hoping for the end of the world because I was a sad human being.
Now that I'm free of all that religious bondage, I see life as a beautiful gift to be enjoyed to the full each and every day. I don't wish for death or destruction of the earth so I can go to someone else's idea of heaven. Heaven is now- it's whatever you make of your life. Hell, too, is now. You can choose to either live your life or wish for it to be over, as well as the lives of everyone around you, just so you can escape.
Live now and be glad for life.

Personally I think there is a lot of people who would like to murder many many people but are either too scared or too lazy to do anything about it. They look towards the sky or various religions to soothe these urges in hopes that someone or something will do their job for them...

They're depressed or might be suffering from delusions....
I can't believe how selfish these people are. They want the world to end so they can end up their own misery(,Wich by the way they probably created themselves) and they don't care about the rest of the world!
Think about the children !!!!!

I think people want to believe that they are living in a special period according to their religion. Since Christians can not live in the time of Jesus, they want to live at the end of times because that is it.

I agree. They want to be rescued and exalted, and not have to continue to face the challenges of daily life.
The nature of life demonstrates that this never, ever happens. We just have to keep going. There is nothing else to do.

All the prophecies have been fulfilled for the return of Christ for his church.
This church age, is the "church of Laodecia" spoken about in Revelations..the last church age before he returns.
