In 2006 .02% of the estimated 196,000,000 drivers died due to a traffic accident.

In 2006 .12% of the 1,664,014 Active Duty and Reserve and National Guard Soldiers died in combat.

Hard Statistics. Hope that helped.

The freeway, no contest. I've driven in 20 of the 22 countries I've ever visited, and the only country who had WORSE drivers than the United States was, interestingly, Iraq. Every other country had much better drivers--by that, I mean in terms of safety, predictability, adherence to local traffic laws, courtesy, etc. Also, as a combat vet of Iraq, I can also tell you that even in combat, you're far more likely to die on an American freeway on any given day than on any given day in Iraq. American soldiers aren't "dying by the droves" or whatever other nonsense the media tries to forcefeed you; the casualty rate is astonishingly low considering the tenacity of the enemy and the length of time we've been in this war. In contrast, any statistics you look at for how many Americans die on American roads will dwarf any daily bodycount from Iraq. The fact that, collectively, Americans are such awful drivers doesn't help.

Seriously, you never believed for a second that someone would one day say " Let us do statistical analysis on comparative risk between joining the military and driving a freeway as out project study for this semester"
Then this class would say "What exciting topic for a study, thank you thank you !!!!"

If you need real data, Write a military college of your choice and ask them to do exactly that.

It depends. The danger of driving remains a relative constant, while joining the military varies. If you end up in combat, then joining the military is much more dangerous. If you don't see combat, then driving is more dangerous.

I know, I know, more highway deaths from driving than deaths in war. But there are far more people driving than soldiers fighting. If you had the same number of soldiers fighting as you did drivers driving, believe me the war would be much more dangerous. Would you rather go into battle, or go for a drive?

What freeway? I think driving on the freeway in CA, would be pretty risky. How many die each day in an auto accident? How many service members die in foreign soil each day? I'm in the military and I'd rather die in a combat zone for my country many miles away, than die on the freeway from someone who is late for work! No comparison...give me another!

There are greater foundation in California than you're attentive to, or perhaps better than most of the existence long citizens of the state are attentive to. additionally they might have been in a convoy that became into heading as much as San Fran gay bay to get loaded up onto a deliver. The weapons might have been something from a 50 cal to a great one hundred and five mm ou observed the weapons, no longer us. I advise ta user-friendly look into protection tension weaponry in a google seek to perceive the weapons.

Obviously statistically, driving is more dangerous for the individual.

But if we had a little war going on on our own streets we might consider this an unimportant statistical distraction.
