I have to say this because it is what I normally tell my new friends who find out about my practices.
Since Witches consciously, and on purpose, use high 'intention' in our craft does that not mean those who use intention UNCONSCIOUSLY are not also Witches?
People, ignorant of the true meaning of Witchcraft, intentionally curse each other every day, Gossip, a very mild form of cursing, is used, as well as 'hoping some one ????' hating another, etc. The list goes on and on and on. Even well wishing, helping others, praying, etc. is smart Witchcraft.
Just because we Witches are on purpose, selective, and consciously conger up through intentional aligning properties, the energies of, for our magic only makes us adept in the craft. So those who use witchcraft without knowing it - EVERYBODY - hurt each other and I dare say, a hell of a lot more than us wise ones who know better.
But, people do love fairy tales enough to live by them, don't they?
Your thoughts?

I posted this in lieu of Lady Morgana's question about anyone having been harmed by a witch.

Whiteraven - generalization IS the point! Christians nit pick over every little thing soooo much that they've lost the ability to see clearly what is in front of their faces.
And I still love them.

Thank you!!! I think this defines "witchcraft" better than any other definition I have seen in this forum. Too many believe witchcraft to be about waving a wand and turning the prince into a frog... or cursing (Hexing... not just name-calling) others or summoning up spirits. Personally I have always felt that witchcraft (magic) is the natural force behind Everything in the world... it's just another word used to describe it, is all. But I guess so many look to fairy tales for all of their definitions of such things, that they don't care if someone else has a different way of looking at it. *shrug*

Thanks again. ^_^

Sorry but no I don't agree with this. It sounds very, very, fluffy. Maybe you are not, but this reasoning sounds like it. Witchcraft is the art of consciously manipulating energies to produce desired outcomes. The key word is conscious. There has to be intent behind it and the deliberate manipulation of energies. Wishing and praying are not witchcraft. They are wishing and praying. That is it. There is a difference. Wishing is to express a desire. Praying is the petitioning of divine help for some purpose, which is not the same as witchcraft either. Witchcraft does not always use the aid of divine energies.

And frankly this whole business of saying how everyone is a witch and that anyone can be one kind of cheapens the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears that those of us put into to become Witches and adept at our various crafts. It is insulting. And I'm sure it is insulting to the people who would rather not have anything to do with witchcraft as well for whatever reason.

Dear Moondown,

Thank you so much for asking this, I read your reference to my question. I have often told people, mainly women and in particular my sisters, that they are really like Witches at heart, just based on what they DO, like making things happen by concentrated effort, imagining, 2 of my sisters are nurses who have the healing arts down perfectly, and use of things from the garden, just being able to make a garden beautiful using whatever is on hand... all these things and so much more are so much a part of Witchcraft. With some training and effort, they could easily become what we call Witches in the true sense of the word, because it is what we DO that counts, not the name Witch.

People do, in a small but real way, what WE call Witchcraft, everyday and just don't call it that.

Girlfriend!! How did you get so smart??? You must be a really great Witch, and I mean that from the bottom of my Witchy heart!!!!!

:)

Bright Bright Blessings!!!

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. Witchcraft requires intent to practice, at least in my opinion -- it is indeed a craft that requires conscious study (although someone might have a certain talent to it from the get-go). Therefore, someone who does not consciously practice witchcraft is not a witch.

Do people other than witches use techniques that we would recognize, and describe as magical? Yes, certainly. But it's not the same thing as being a witch.

You are correct. They are performing magic without knowing. For those who accused you of fluffiness, She was trying to prove a POINT! She is aware of the real definition of Witchcraft and what it means to be a real witch. She's trying to get people to understand that their practises are not that much different than what we do when we conduct rituals and use craft. Yes, there are differences in intent and ability, action, but there is not that much difference between turning wine and bread to blood and body than there is some of the rituals and magic we perform as Witches and Wiccans. She meant no offence to real craft which if you knew her you would know how deeply she respects and honours it.
Blessings Sister.

I have to disagree with the generalized notion that "everyone is a witch". No. Witchcraft is a distinct form of conjuring and manipulating of energies. Everyone has the capability to use such energies, but most do not. Yes, one can unconciously "harm" or "help" with your words, but that isn't magic. That's feelings and emotions. I could say that you were a b****, and heinious, and all kinds of other things, but that will only hurt your feelings... I'm not directing any energies your way. You could counter that with a spell to cause me harm, and THAT would be witchcraft. It's subtle, but it's still a difference. And Christians use prayer, and ask for God to influence and change lives. A witch can ask for divine help, but most often uses their own energies, and energy pulled from the earth and spirits. We who are "wise" and of the Craft should be careful of such generalities, because it's the sort of thing that comes back to bite us in the butt.

I don't think you're using proper terminology. You mean to say everyone utilizes some form of magic, which is simply creating change in accordance with the will. Witchcraft is a specific way of going about creating magic. Big difference.

Just as a spell is little more than a prayer with props. A prayer is a SPELL without props.

I am a Christian.
Not a witch.
Jesus Christ & Almighty God says witchcraft is against God's laws and nature.
You can be a witch or a Christian.
You can not be both.
Simply put... A Christian witch is an oxymoron.

The word is "conjure" not conger.

This post just shows how fluffy you really are. You'll get over it with time and experience.
