It has been recently annouced that the Bush administration is considering a 20 billion dollar arms deal with Saudi Arabia. Some argue that Saudi Arabia does nothing to assist with the Global War on Terror (GWOT). Futhermore, Saudi Arabia antagonizes our Isreali allies and several terrorists have been trained, harbored, and funded on Saudi soil. Does this deal have merits I'm unaware of or is Bush making huge mistake?

Actually it all adds up to some $60billion - when the aid to Israel and Egypt is added in.

You got to give to these others to get your aid in to Israel - you got to prop Israel up because that's what props up the Republicans - to give to Israel you got to keep sweet the only two significant Arab countries still on your side (oil and Suez) - and that's how much it's gonna cost - all of which is just deferred debt - your debt for the oil you buy!
Yeah like Saudi can't afford to buy it's own tanks - it gets a 'mate' under a rock to do it.

BTW That's $250 for each and every US citizen - good to see you guys are being so even handed in propping up dictatorships and tearing down others.

How would you feel if some guy and his mates lent on you for money for their rides because you owed them due to a bad habit - after all you got a habit to feed and they are the only suppliers in town.

The US has an addiction to oil it can't afford ( but it's so bad it subsidises it's consumption )- and denies the long term effects - economics, health and environment.

That's the price you pay for being a nation of petrol heads.

Because the last two generations of the Bush family have close ties to the Saudis. That's also why we didn't really push the Saudis after 9/11, even though most of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudi. Yet another Bush blunder in the making.

It is a money making scheme and a very STUPID thing to consider!

20 billion dollars is a lot of money and would be better spent on something rather than an "arms deal". Doesn't sound like a "deal" to me. How about take that money and secure the borders that the government has been purposely avoiding?

You should get at least ten pts for such a good question. It's like the 800lb gorilla in the corner noone wants to talk about. To understand this phenomenon it helps to look back before 1948. How did Zionists succeed in getting the majority Arab residents of Palestine to kindly leave their homes, businesses, olive groves, pastures, and livelihood so that Eurpean and Russian jews could move in? Deir Yassin is a good example. A group of well organized and heavilly armed zionists came into town and murdered dozens of people for all to see. With loud speakers, they informed the rest of the residents that if they did not leave, they would share the same graves as their fallen loved ones. It worked for DY and the rest of Palestine. The King David hotel was bombed by zionists killing dozens of Brits, Arabs as well as Jews. Thes days that would be called terrorism, but it is very "antisemitic" to bring these things up.

It has one merit. We are also increasing military aid to Israel by a factor of 25%. Read the whole story!

it's about the oil they have and we don't. no, they're not our best friends, but we have to placate and safeguard them. we don't want to ride to work on skateboards. adults will understand this.
