Let her freak, you need to do what you need to do... Borrow a humane trap from the animal control center

Do you have a garage, shed, or room that you can "clear" and make pretty empty? That would be best. Even if she freaks, she won't hurt herself. Especially if the room is pretty empty. Hey, she's got to be spayed! Just let her "deal with it!"

Talk to the vet about what's wrong with NOT keeping her inside first. Find out how big a deal it is. I'm pretty sure it's so you can keep her from eating for 24 hours before the surgery (I know anesthesia isn't good on a full stomach). I'm sure that's why, talk to the vet about how dangerous it really is.

Hi! After 10 litters I had to catch my feral as well. The reason they want the cat indoors or in a cage for 24 hours is so they do not eat before the surgery. They must have an empty stomach and bladder and bowels so the surgery does not become complicated if they vomit from the sedation. Put her in a carrier and even if she meows all night, this is the BEST thing for her. To many unwanted kittens is a heart breaker. Please do this and she will be grateful to you as well. Too many litters can cause breast cancer in cats and other issues. Help her by being a good loving human to her. Thanks Marie

You will have to crate her or use a humane trap to put her in. If you are the one who feeds her and know she is not eating elsewhere you can put a very small amount of canned mackerel in the trap and you will have to keep her there for about six hours. I think confining her AFTER the surgery for 24 hours is really important.

This is truly a call for Rescue Remedy (the Bach five-flower essence) and I would also get a bottle of the Bach Mimulus to mix with that. Get a small spray bottle and put the RR and the Mimulus (about a dropperful) in that with a little filtered water. You can then spray the liquid in the AREA of the trap - not on her to frighten her. It will do its job by being in the air and settling gently down to her in the trap. Keep the trap covered so it is dark for her, that helps to settle cats down too. The flower essences cannot harm her in any way and you can "treat" her every fifteen minutes, every half-hour etc. till she settles down a little.

The Rescue Remedy is also very helpful AFTER the surgery so continue to use it until she is released.

I definitely agree with my fellow answerers...if she freaks out, she will get over it.

My question to you is, "do you want to try and catch a litter of kittens also?" It is okay for her to be panicked for the first little while. After the spaying, you will need to keep her in for a few days (or at least I do with our feral cats) just to make sure there are no complications. She may actually enjoy this! In fact, one of ours literally climbed the wall(7 ft.) and now she refuses to go back out, even with the door open.

Whether you choose to keep her in or not after spaying, is up to you. But please follow the advise said here by our fellow animal lovers before she has kittens.

"WAY TO GO RESCUER!"
Good Luck!

Ask your vet for a tranquilizer that will keep her calm for the extent of the time and have them give it to her before you pick her up. I know after my cats have been spaded all they want to do is sleep for the next day or 2.....so she maybe fine on her own. Try and keep her in a room where no one goes in out of and is quiet.

You will have to crate her for a while til you get her to the vet. She should go without food and water for at least 6 hours prior to surgery.

After spay -- Does she have a safe (from other cats and hunters) and comfortable place she can recouperate in outside? Can you provide her with one, like a dog house with a teeny door?

Keep her in a crate. She will have to be kept in a cage for a few days after being spayed too. You can't leave her alone after the operation, she will tear the stitches apart and die. You have to talk to your vet about where she will be kept before and after the surgery. Wherever she will be closed after the surgery for at least a week, she will also stay for the day before.

Catch her and take her to the vet so they can keep her there the 24 hours before her surgery. (That's to keep her from eating within 12 hours of surgery, so she won't have anything in her stomach that she could vomit and aspirate.)

Also let them know that she is feral and that you won't be able to bring her back in 10-14 days to get her stitches removed. If they know in advance, they can put in dissolving stitches instead.

Thank you for getting her spayed. While she is at the vet for the surgery, please have them vaccinate her too. She needs all the help she can get in avoiding diseases.

Get a kennel and kennel her in it the night before she gets Spayed. Ferral cats can be difficult to confine but do your best
