Whatever dog you get, it won't matter. As long as it get it when it is a puppy and train it not to attack the rabbit. Whenever the dog gets too aggressive, say 'no' in a deep voice, don't scream at it!!
And whoever said not to get a terrier because they are 'vicious', that is not entirely true. Ever heard of the expression "look at the owner holding the lead"?
I have a English Stafforshire bull terrier, and she loves my rabbits. She even cleans them!!
While I am on the subject of vicious dogs, more attacks are reported on humans and small animals from Maltese terriers than any other breed. I guess this from not being disciplined from owners after being naughty. They are forgiven because they are 'cute'.
A Chihuahua should be okay, they are a very loyal dog. But do not only pick a dog to match up your rabbit for size.

Aw, I have a rabbit and a dog :] .. well 2 dogs .
My rabbit is a female too. Shes very territorial and doesnt like dogs LOL I have a 6 year old Peke and a 9 month old Dachshund puppy. The puppy will try and play with the rabbit but I often have to crate her while the rabbit is out because my rabbit will attack her. Dachshunds were bred to hunt .. so they can attack rodents or small animals. Though if raised from puppyhood .. there shouldnt be a problem.
My peke could care less about the rabbit on the other hand.
To look for a neutered male rabbit .. and a small dog to adopt .. check out Petfinder. http://www.petfinder.com it will show you all dogs (or rabbits!) in your area that need a new home.
If you find a dog that you really like .. the rescue should let you know weither or not the dog is good with other animals. They should also let you bring your rabbit and see how the dog (leashed) and the rabbit get along. If they dont offer to do that .. ask them if you can.
I would go for a small adult dog. With an adult their temperment is pretty much set .. so you know what you're getting when you adopt him/her.
Good luck searching! :]

Whatever you do, DON'T get a Terrier or Terrier mix.
They are tenacious hunters and will kill rabbits in a heartbeat. It's not their fault, it's the breed with a very strong instinct. That's just what Terriers do best....hunt. Chihuahuas maybe if you can get a good tempered Chihuahua. One that is well bred, and one you can see both parents. That's how you will know if the temperament is good.
Or......you can adopt an adult Chihuahua from a rescue or shelter. Usually they will let you try the dog first to see if it will settle into your household. This is a win-win situation. If the dog doesn't work out with the bunny, you can return the dog to the shelter or rescue where you got it.
The shelters also have bunnies. Most are young adults and you can see the temperament as well before you buy.
Take care, and have fun!

Make sure that you neuter the male rabbit also. There is the House Rabbit Society. There local chapters often have spayed and neutered abandoned rabbits up for adoption.
Most rabbits will rule the house hold and intimidate the dogs. Avoid hunting dogs and terriers who are both breed to hunt rodents/lagomorphs. The House Rabbit Society may have some specific suggestions.

The reason you heard not to get a terrior is becuase they have a hunting instinct and may in fact kill your bunnies. :-(
Chihuhuas are very agressive - becuase there so loving. There very jealous of when their owner gets/gives attention to anything and anyone else. Its kind of cute actually!
If you live in an appartment I would opt for something small, probably without a hunting instinct, but it would be ok to get a tarrior if you get it as a puppy and introduce the bunnies slowly...personally, I wouldnt try it. But if your brave, you can.
Something like a pomeranian would be good, so would a lhasa apso, shih tzu, bulldogs, cocker spaniel, American eskimo, Pugg, and the australian terrier (suprisingly!)
You can go to petfinder.com to find any kind of pet locally to adopt!

I would be careful getting a male rabbit, or another female rabbit, for that matter, because even though your rabbit may be very small and super friendly, they can become very territorial over the apartment and become very aggressive toward another rabbit. A dog would be fine - but, like you said, try to avoid any of the naturally bred hunting dogs. Their instinct to hunt may cause problems...have you tried looking at a pomerianian or something? Good luck!

Get a medium-sized dog with a good disposition.
If you're buying from a breeder, ask to see BOTH parents.
Personally, I get all my dogs from the humane society or the pound.
It feels good that I can help with the problems in shelters.
And, as a bonus, most dogs in shelters are mutts, and most mutts have GREAT dispositions and are great with other animals.
As for the no terrier/chihuahua thing, I haven't heard that, but terriers are really super hyper and chihuahuas can be aggressive.

Dogs have a taste for meat alive or dead. Rabbits don't.
Don't mix the two. Vegans are excellent company for pet
rabbits and can be rented for a reasonable sum for daily
hops, foot thumping, and munching wild green things.
