is it me, or does anybody else see a similarity between christians telling 'sinners' and atheists that they must be 'saved' by jesus or they'll go to hell... and those chain mail you often receive claiming that you will die in 7 days, or have bad luck for the rest of your life.if you do not "repost this within 5 minutes"?!
To me, it sounds as if religion could easily just have been made up by some bored person looking to trick as many people as possible into doing everything "god" says...
People often ask, "why dont you beleive in god" and i say it is because...
' i dont underestimate human beings' ability to create and beleive. I am sure if enough people heard about the flying spaggeti monster after time it would become a religion. I dont wish to rule out the idea completely but im not convinced!"

by the way i think that the excuse of " oh... if god was real he wouldnt make anyone suffer" is a valid excuse at all for not beleiving.. Nobody claims god is out to make evry1 happy

as you are probably aware there is a limit on how much can be written in the question boxes. Just because the phrasing of my question seems to have a lack of religious knowledge... doesnt mean i do personally. To be quite honest- the title "religion... a bit of fun" wasnt my intended original question- but previous experience of having dull titles and then getting NO ANSWERS made me reconsider to a more catchy title.
In no way am i closed to alternate viewsand i dont think that, personally, my question was ignorant at all, i was just stating a point- that religion could easily be something humans created to make them selves psychologically more stable.
The comparison to chain mail was simply to put forward the idea that, like chain mail- creators use threats to people who dont comply to the general enlargment of the whole thing... which could be the case with religion.
and my reference to what christians say to atheists was not at all what i think to b the general beleif!

I agree with you. The old testament was created as fables and lessons for the Hebrew people out in the desert.

Look at Mythology. They had their mystical stories that taught a lesson, and a religion to go along with it....Until the Christians took it over and "changed their minds about it".

I just think the world would be much better if we could all go by "Live and let Live." Don't worry about what I believe in, and I won't worry about what you believe in. As long as we have a basic sense of right and wrong, does it really matter what we believe happens to us when we die?

You question is based on a very limited knowledge of religion, and as such, your understanding has been mired in ignorance. Before we get caught up in religious belief and dogma, let us not forget the sheer scope of the different religious sects. Christianity alone has so many different beliefs, it is frankly, hard to understand what exactly they believe. From the punishment of sinners, to the actual reality of the God Head. I do not think you can simply attribute this to "some bored person". Your question screams of a personal bias, without any intention of changing your mind.

In response to your statement that all non-believers go to hell, know that many, MANY religions believe that God will save those who have lived good, clean, wholesome lives. Hell is reserved only for those who have knowingly lived contrary to the teachings of God.

And your comparison to a chain letter as basis does your argument does nothing but discredit your argument even more. Logically, there is no real connection. It is like saying that Paris Hilton is a girl and an idiot, so since you are a girl you must also be an idiot. Please do not misunderstand me, I do not actually believe you to be stupid, I am simply pointing out the ignorance of your statement. So in answer to your question, I would say no. I do not think religion is simply a game. Not at all

Concept of an idea like a God or some thing super natural is a social need, to fulfill the vacuum created by the inability of humans to tackle and deal with situations beyond their control as well as an escape route to flee, hide and feel protected ,by redirecting the real or perceived threats and dangers.Evolution of religion is a serious subject and has rendered a remarkable service to humans in protecting them from unforeseen calamities and problems.not physically bu psychologically. On the other hand, religion has also been the cause of so much human sufferings and conflict.A religion may be a source of a joke or two but never a fun. It's a wonder drug but also a severe malady. so,please be serious.

It's funny. They say that to us Atheists and to those who do not believe in jesus that we will go to hell but yet most will agree to what the late Pope John Paul II said that all who lived a just life will be saved even if they do not believe in jesus.

I'm a non-believer and I will have to take the word of the pope over any other religious person about their knowledge with religion

confident. i keep in mind one time however whilst my buddy and that i've got been making racial and spiritual jokes (he's black, i'm jewish) and yet another newborn walked up and started listening. then he informed us a comedian tale that thoroughly in basic terms crossed the line. it grew to become into some thing approximately jews installation in an ashtray. so yeah, I haven't any concern, i in basic terms think of human beings could be respectful of a few circumstances, becuase each and every now and then they're very comfortable areas. yet different than that, nah. i mean, each and every now and then whilst my mom says she wont purchase my brother some thing, he replies yet saying, "ah, those jews and their money!" so yeah. i like it whilst anybody is delicate adequate to poke some relaxing at themselves. thats why each and every now and then south park is so hilariously hilarious (;D). sorry, i extraordinarily lots wrote you an essay :)

It is my belief that religion was created by man to celebrate a divine spirit. ...so I sympathize with your point.

Another point: if, as Christians say, there is only one God, and this God created religion for man, then why so many different religions exist? Or is there more than one God?

Blessings

Don't you think that christians are the main ones to pay up in this "5-minute" scheme?
