masses are ignorant and dangerous, so to control them you need to give them something intangable to fear and to hold onto at the same time....ask the Catholic Church, its the one thing they are very good at.

Because the concept of gods angels and deities has stronger roots in our past than the purple man-llamas. That deep rooting in our past makes it more "acceptable." It's been around for so long and it's so widely accepted that people don't question it. The longer it's been around the easier it is for people to accept that it's there. But if someone new comes along saying they were contacted by a new god or an alien race or flying purple people eaters... then THEY are the crazy ones.
Eventually.... when the end of the world doesn't come and their saviors don't return they'll realize it was all a sham and they'll move on with their lives. There will be, however; those who cannot live with reality... so they will continue with some kind of fantasy..... "He's coming! he really is...we just miscalculated the date!".... because they are pathetic and need some supernatural purpose to make their lives worth living.

Why do people believe in God? Because he is the cause of all life and is the only thing that really makes sense and fits into any little piece that we can't put together. Asking why people believe in God is like asking why was America and Canada founded on godly beliefs? Because deep down inside we know he exists.

In this country at any rate, you have the right to believe whatever you wish, you would not be locked up for those beliefs as long as you were not a threat to yourself or anyone else.
For myself, my belief is based in personal experience, and I do not expect anyone to have the same belief that I do, but I do know that there is a creator.

If everyone believes in the same purple guy, then it is part of the establishment (culture). If only one does, then they think something is wrong upstairs in your brain.
So get more people to believe in the purple guy, and you will be okay.
Note: People like to believe in a god because it makes them happy and feel secure that there is a pattern to things. Humans are hard-wired to look for patterns.

Delusional united Delusional they stand simple lol. They just use questions, twist words, cut off non-believers when they are answering questions especially it the religious zealots doing all the asking. All this just to disprove other's beliefs and tada they pretend they are right and agree they shouldn't be in a padded cell.

Believing in something more powerful than humans seems senseable to me. To me there has to be a creator. People and everything around us just couldn't have existed without a creator.

I think it was the ultimate cultmaster L. Ron Hubbard who said if one person believes it, it's a psychosis; if two people believe it, it's a folie a deux; if one hundred people believe it, it's a cult; and if a million people believe it, it's a religion.
I don't understand it either. I'm told it brings comfort to people, but religion never brought comfort to me (although the ritual does).

Personally, I think a person's spiritual path/belief/religion is basically a form of self expression.

All I have to do is look around me. Gaze at the universe to know there is a God behind it all. Only arrogance would believe that we are alone.
