A friend of mine asked me to do some shots of her belly. She is due next month. She wants to do them at her house, which takes me out of my comfort zone of my cozy little studio at my house and my specialty of shooting outdoors. I need some ideas for posing/props and tips for shooting on location like that. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

She's just putting it in my hands. The thing she said was that it not be totally nude.

Also, how can I include her 14 year old daughter? I have found some examples on how to include younger children, but nothing for older ones.

I'm like you. I like having total control of my light. However, you can still get some good shots outside and at her house as well. Having your subject at home in her comfort zone gives you an advantage over your studio. Exploit that advantage. Try shooting a backlit silouette through sheer drapes infront of a window. Go buy some gossamer fabric before the shoot. It makes a great prop and softens any shot whether shooting through it, or just draping it in the background.

Also, use a dark background, go with muted window light and shoot a backlit closeup of the belly. Think crescent moon with the light termination line crossing the bellybutton. Get the father's face in one of those shots leaning close with a monalisa smile.

You don't have to go nude but you can have her wear a button-up shirt so just her belly is exposed. For props, you could have her holding a stuffed animal to her belly, maybe one she already has selected for the baby. Her sitting in the nursery (if she has one) would also be nice. Maybe a shot of the mother and the daughter feeling the belly, like feeling the baby kick, would work, not sure with a teenage daughter.

Good luck!

Do some close ups of her hand on her belly. Some side shots of her hands on top and under looking down. Some laying on her side on the floor, hand on belly. Her daughter resting her head on the belly. mom on a chair, daughter on the floor, both hands together over the top of the belly, looking at each other.

if you have photoshop add this phrase to a close up to her belly

"Before you were conceived,
I wanted you.
Before you were born,
I loved you.
Before you were an hour,
I would give my life for you.
This is the miracle of life."

Mom's love it!

You could recreate the famous demi moore pose where she is naked with one hand over her breasts and her leg covering her lady bits. You would just need a backdrop for that.
You need to speak to her about what she wants. Does she just want the bump in the picture, or does she want her whole body? If you chat with her about her expectations, then you will know what to take with you. Also, she may have something really weird in mind, that you may have to prepare yourself for!!!!!

My cousin just sent out her shower invites and it was a picture of her.
It was a side shot, with one hand on top of her belly and her other underneath of it. And she was looking down at it, smiling. It is the best picture of her I have ever seen. It really captured her joy.
Good Luck!

Do a web search on pregnancy portraits and you'll get a ton of samples from various studios and photographers. You'll find something in there you will like and recreate that.

Get a gun, preferably an AK-47, then simply unload it while pointing at the pregnant belly.

Well, that's actually an assault rifle...

Under no circumstances should you ever shoot a pregnant woman! My God, that's just plain crazy. Have you lost your mind?
