Some teas have just as much caffeine (or one or more organic chemicals that do basically the same thing as caffeine), and are generally healthier than coffee. As Vegas Beauty said (but in a more easily understood way) Mate, which can be brewed as a tea, or prepared in other ways, has the same basic effect as coffee but the effect generally lasts longer than coffee and you don't crash afterwards like you can with coffee, soda, or energy drinks. Plus it has a lot of nutrients that are good for you too. The other thing is that coffee (caffeine specifically) has been proven to be addicting. This being said when you feel tired or fatigued and feel you "need" that next cup of coffee, you may actually just be starting to go through withdrawal. I hope this helps!

Scientifically, chocolate is supposedly to be the best "stay awake" drink followed by tea and then only coffee.
If you draw a graph of coffee kicks, it has a steep incline and a steep decline as well. That's why after the coffee kick, you are extra tired and you need extra coffee to keep you awake. It ends up like an addiction.
Chocolate suppose to have a steady incline and a later declining graph.

Yes. Yerba Matte tea is a good one. There are more. I've tried them all in an attempt to follow Dr.'s orders and wean myself from the coffee pot but I still end up back with the roasted bean. I don't have many vices left. I'm holding onto this one for as long as I can.
I just finished reading your question so I'll pull myself away from my own picture long enough to say my sons both like Red Bull.

Mate is the gentle hum of an awakened mind and a vibrant body. It's the sensual soar of your essential being. Yerba Mate is energy that's balanced, not frantic.
It's the brew of the living leaf, plucked green from the tree of life. The people of the South American rain forest discovered the truth before we did. They offered the tea of the tree that sings the body electric. And gave us a genuine coffee alternative.
With a llama-load of antioxidants that would make broccoli wilt, mate leaf trickles grinning into your system. It's an energy source that won't leave you drooping or demand your addiction.

Alternative to coffee for taste etc. is postum and pero. But they don't have caffeine. You could eat healthy food in the morning that gives you a lift and give up caffeine. Or have tea or coke instead.

Try hot tea. We don't drink coffee in our house but we do drink a lot of hot tea. It has caffeine to help you stay awake, and it comes in a variety of flavors. You can make it as strong or as weak as you wish. I would suggest Earl Grey. It is our favorite.

i don't know if you like diet sodas, but there is a new diet Pepsi that has more caffeine in it. but that is here, on the other side of the us, north Carolina. i don't know if they introduce these things all over America. it is pretty good, you might want to try it.
cappuccinos are also good with less caffeine than coffee, but still have caffeine.
hope you find something that works for you.
