What sort of camera does palyboy use to get the look that their pictures have? I have even seen the modles taken back with the end product. Whats this diff between my camera and theirs?

I read an article not too long ago about a well known centerfold photographer. He uses many studio lights, (think dozens, many types, placed all around) and has a large cast of makeup artists, scene dressers, prop handlers, etc etc. They spend hours getting the stage perfect, then shoot. I believe he shoots on high end digital backs and large format film.
It would be hard (impossible) to replicate images like those using common consumer equipment with an on-board flash!

The difference is probably a million dollars!! Playboy uses top of the line equipment and lighting for their photo shoots. But the biggest difference is in the computer technology. The layouts and final photos are not done on the picture paper you and I use. They use thinner printing material and computer software to emphasize certain features. But you are right, they take great pics! But when you combine the use of great cameras with great computers...you are in for some great shots.

Playboy gets their shots from professional photographers who understand exposure and lighting. They also have a whole crew of people who do makeup and clothing, scene design and all that stuff.
A good knowledge of Photoshop doesn't hurt either.

its not the camera its the photographer,
its the use of light and exposure to produce what ever effect they want, the camera is just a tool
however the use of good film helps alot - thats right film still rules look at the quality!
