I have found that during meditation, once I become very relaxed and receptive, my core begins to rock - either in a side-to-side motion, or circular - and the rest of my body follows. It is very relaxing once I "tune into it" and it seems to open up my top two chakras. Does anybody know where this comes from? Is it physiological or more psychically oriented? I can resist it if I try to, but it feels like a strong pull.

This is not uncommon in meditation or praying. I’ve seen bits of film/video showing Tibetan monks/nuns swaying while reciting prayers. In Judaism, it is called ‘shuckling’. As other replies here have allude to, it may be a physical manifestation of mental/spiritual energy. Whether it is of benefit to you or not will have to be your own judgement.

Relaxed & upright posture is preferred. Do some breathig & body relaxing exercises for 5 minutes. Use an upright chair without side arms or sit in padmasana. Watch your breath. SIT EAST FACED. (avoid north)

I believe that's your physical body tuning into the subtle etheric vibrations of your higherself, but I'm not an expert so I can't be sure.

maybe you were in the process of being possessed...or you were subconsciously recalling a cool song or music beat that you couldn't help but 'rock your body' to... the minds a weird thing...stuff happens in there that we'll probably never know about...
