I'm in dire need to tone up. I've lost 62 lbs, from 240 lbs to 175 lbs, and I'm very flabby from all the cardio. I'm currently trying to tone up and be less flabby with some more definition. I have no desire to be built like a madman, I just want to finally rid of all this fat and look like I never had a weight problem.

I've been using the machines at the gyms working on my upper abs, been doing crunches until it hurt, etc. I barely did any reps a few days ago and my muscles were sore for several days after.

How can I expect to tone up if my muscles get all sore for a few days after I try toning excersizes??? Is it supposed to be like that? Any tips? Thanks

Well depending on how much you lost ...like you said alot...and stuff ...if it was like really hanging then sometimes only surgery can help that...but thats ONLY if its really bad...
but heres how you tone:
first you need a routine...theres many...many...out there , heres one you can use or go find another...
monday- chest and shoulders
tuesday-biceps and triceps
wednesday- legs and back
thursday- chest and shoulders again
friday-biceps and triceps again...
saturday and sunday ....OFF!!!!
so now you have your routine...now what you need to do is lift LITE WEIGHT W/ HIGH REPS...for ex:
do 3-4 sets of 15,12,10 reps...
yes your goin to be sore but thats why we put your workout days far apart enough so that you can recover b4 going to work that muscle out again....so dont work the same muscle back to back...as far as your abbs...they're just like any other muscle you have...they need excersise and mostly time to recover...so sure work them out hard..but keep in mind that it IS possible to overtrain them and they DO need rest...so try working them out every other day....or if you dont use weighted crunches or any excersise for your abbs w/ weights then you can do it everyday just dont go intensely w/ it...
do 3 sets of about 15-20 and all you need is like 3 excersises....also doing some cardio will help to tone that fat up also...so do some more cardio as well...
so lets recap...
1) lite weight w/ high reps....
2)dont over train..it stops your growth
3)do some cardio...it'll help and its healthy for your heart...
good luck to you....

To start off, congrats on the weight loss.

Toning exercises consists of doing 3-4 sets of 11-15 reps. . .remember that.

Your muscles are getting so sore because they are not used to the sudden workout you are giving them. I think it is always a good idea to start slow if you just begin to workout, because the soreness can sometimes be pretty painful.

I think your best bet is just to tone different body parts every other day. For example, do your arms Monday, your legs Wednesday, your chest and back Friday, and your shoulders Sunday. You might want to up your protein intake a bit for your muscle.

Hope that helped.

Hi, I see by your diet you are heading in the right direction. If you are looking to tone up you might want to try lifting very lite for toning and cuts. Lose the sugary drinks and drink lots of water. You may look smaller in the stomach and legs, but when losing weight you never know where you will lose body fat from. How long it will take to see results depends on you. If you want fast results up the settings on the treadmill and stay on for longer. Burn more calories. Just remember if you want your body to look the way you imagine, you must focus and be intense. I hope you reach your goals soon!
