he wrote:

"...when you're God is as big as mine . . you can be ignorant."

now, i would say that, not only is this statement arrogant, it is also extremely dangerous

i mean, think about it. what he is saying is, his God AFFORDS him ignorance!

and we all know what comes of ignorance...

im making a serious point here.

what do other people think?

It's like the old "My dad can beat up your dad" line.

That is a terribly stupid statement from your "Christian" correspondent. The proper English is "your", not "you're".

"Your God" is different than "My God" ?? NO !!!

All 6.5 billion or so humans now living on planet Earth do have the SAME ONE LOVING CREATOR FATHER GOD !

All human dreams or prayers or imaginative creations of "their God" do not ever change the One Unchangeable GOD !!!

WHEN will all of mankind learn and believe that GOD is Real and Sovereign upon and within all !! ? Sadly, even some Christians still think that the God of the S. Baptists is different than the God of the Pentacostals or the Catholics or the Mormons ! Nope ! SAME ONE REAL GOD HERE and Who is Ministering to each and all humans ! Finite human perceptions change Him not ! Amen !

On "ignorance"; God does not allow this to exist for very long. Jesus is Revealing to us now in Spirit (John 16:7-16) the ALL TRUTH of GOD !!! God and Jesus, One here in Spirit, have told us/tell us now:

"Be you perfect, even as I AM perfect."

Being ignorant is very imperfect; but that is a small start, at least one step above being a "pet rock" ! Ha ha

I think that the person who said this to you was ignorant ... and you're correct when you say it's both arrogant and extremely dangerous. I've seriously studied 'religion' (all the different religions of the world) since I was 3 (I'm now 56) and the more I learn, the more I realize I don't know ... and I want to study more and more. Perhaps these ignorant people will 'go to Heaven' ... because I truly believe that we will ALL go to Heaven in the end (think of Purgatory/Hell as being more like Summer school, and not like Eternal punishment) ... but I think that they may have to spend time in this 'summer school' and I think that those of us who learn enough here will be the 'officers' and those who 'covet their ignorance' will be the 'troops' when we are in Heaven. I hope I 'know enough' to be a five-star General ... I may only be a 'Seargent Major' now, so I will continue to learn until the day I die.

I think that is absolutely the stupidest thing I have heard in a long time. The man is ignorant and scary. No wonder the whole world is going to hell on a hand cart. If there were more people like this one, then there would be a lot less people in the world and absolutely no need for religion because people would be too dumb to practice it or need it.

The ignorant/Christian thing is like an American fad. Yes. They are proud. Proud imbeciles. And make even lefty Christians look bad. Obviously, ignorance leads to idiocy. There's a great book called Religious Literacy with a chapter about this.

It's an unspoken agreement and understanding among many Christians. They love to use the verse "lean not on your own understanding..." meaning don't trust your mind when it says X doesn't make sense. You are supposed to blindly and ignorantly follow what the bible says (or what the church tells you the bible says). And you are right. That type of action plan is extremely dangerous. It is worse with each additional person who believes and follows it. People who think like this are not fit to be in any role of authority in a civil society (this includes voting). If people intend to practice not trusting themselves, how can we (or anyone else for that matter) trust them, especially when it comes to making decisions that affect others.

I'm a Christian....I think the statement is ignorant. I prefer:

"If God were small enough to be understood, He would not be big enough to be worshiped." --- Evelyn Underhill

However, 'understanding' God here, I take to mean completely knowing Him and His ways...and I don't think we can ever do that. But I also don't believe we are meant to run around blind and stupid and believing anything someone tells us.

i think it's all a play of words. that person obviously had no idea what he was saying because the Bible says

1 Thessalonians 4:13
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

meaning God doesn't want us to be ignorant and that word is actually mention repeatedly in the Bible with a negitive reference, so i think that he just didn't know what he was saying.

CLAPTRAP: i don't feel my religion give me an excuse for wrong behavior, rather it makes me realize an accountablity i owe to strive to do right, i owe it to God for him already saving me.
i don't do right to get to heaven i do right because God saved me and i am going to heaven.

U r making a serious point here. The question is for or against Christians or Ignorance.

Your point is well-taken.

What you must realize is that whether Christian or non-Christian, many of the people you encounter here on Yahoo! Answers are unable to articulate points for critical thinkers, and out of frustration from the "why won't you see it the way I do" syndrome, they resort to things that really don't hold much water in an argument.

This Christian obviously dosen't know his own God very well. His and my God does not tolerate folishness or ignorance, expecially when all you have to do to attain wisdom is ask Him and be open to recieve it no matter where it comes from.
