I work at a very stressful job in a hospital. I am an RN and work 12 hour shifts 3 days weekly. I would like to supplement my income by either working extra at the hospital or getting a PRN (as needed) part time job on the side.
The hospital is very demanding, high paced stressful work. and very demaning. If I work extra there I get paid 1 1/2 time my normal salary.
The alternative is to get a job working at a nearby nursing home which I really enjoy, and the stress is minimal and make about $10 per hour less than I make in the hospital.
If I start working at a nursing home, it will only be a day or maybe 2 days every 2 weeks.
What would you do? Make the big money or have less stress?

Extra work is to help me get some money in savings. I do not feel comfortable with my current financial situation. I am not prepared for a "rainey day" and would like to get on top of this now.

Personally, I would go with the lower stress...for a variety of reasons...it varies your skills, adds to your resume, increases your contacts and it's something different.
In my life I've often had to make these choices...and I've learned the extra stress isn't worth it....do you live to work or work to live?

I'm sure you've heard the old cliche "less is more". Since you have stated that your primary job is very stressful then if I were a close friend of yours I would encourage you to take the job you enjoy because as you said before, you love taking care of the elderly. It could be a time for you to relieve stress and recharge your batteries for the hospital work that is so demanding. We all need money but we also need quality of life too. Good luck.

Extra income option...
A good reason...
We all need a good reason for starting something new, and the reason has to be powerful enough to propel us forward, regardless of any challenges that may come our way.

Well if you really nee extra money! then go with the hospital, but if you really don't go to the nursing home!(less stress!)
also the nursing home pays less because it is more of a volunteer work!, then a job!!

By working in the healthcare industry this would be a great opportunity for you. It's basically a business informing others of non-toxic, everyday use products that are better for our health and our environment (especially when you have small children). Check out http://www.workathomeunited.com/lyn. There is no selling, inventory, or any of that stuff. There is a small one time investment that is risk free and fully refundable for up to 120 days (4mos.) and you can do it as much or as little as you'd like.

It depends on how much money you need. I think I would go with the less stressful job. You will expand your view of the world. You can always quit and start accepting overtime.

Unless you really need that extra $10/hour, go with less stress and more enjoyment.
