Not so much "dictate" as it does form you as a person. example......once a baby learns how to walk , it now has a different way of life as opposed to a baby who maybe never does. Or a person who has done drugs has a harder time being accepted and given a chance as opposed to someone who never has. Things in your past form your future, and cannot be undone, BUT once you recognize that it may be holding you back, you can decide to change things in your future.

Sometimes a persons past dictates their future when they have made some serious mistakes, regretted their choice and learned a lesson to never make the same mistake again. The past can come back in other forms as well, such as having been in a bad marriage and now being afraid to ever get married again. Telling your children about some of the things you did in your younger days to stop them from making the same mistakes, only to find out that they did them anyways because "you did it." Then there is the good side of how your past will dictate your future. Your children have all grown up and you decide to return to school to get the college degree you never got when you were younger because you were too busy raising a family.

If a person does something and learns from it then it affects there future for the good. If they didn't learn, and they continue doing it then yes it affects it for the bad. If your question is, can you determine what a person will do in the future becasue of what they did in past, then no, people do things, learn from it, are sorry for it if it was bad and they can be much better people. Some people don't learn and travel down the same paths doing the same destructive things.

not necessarily. Some people tend to learn from their mistakes and learn not to do it again. The future can always be different from the past.

No, but a person's past forms their present. Your past is what made you who you are - you can change your actions, but your past successes and mistakes gave you the character that you have today. Learn from your past, be formed and grow from it, but don't repeat it if it hurt and was a bad idea.
