Any helpful advice would be wonderful. I know she doesn't expect anything from me because she knows my financial situation. But she is my mother and I want to do something for her. Thanks a bunch.

It's more about the thought than the actual gift. Flowers from the garden in your yard with small other things that you can get from the dollar section at target are good. Make her a card. If you want--you could ever write in the card that it's good for a day of shopping--or lunch--or something that comes later on. You could even put it's worth you cleaning her house or washing her car. Simple and thoughtful is the way to go.

In situations like this at your age I used to make my mother a lovely card myself, even if it took thorugh the night, to show that I had put a lot of love and care into creating the card. You can do this quite cheaply. I used to make a collage - stuck on things - which were meaningful to my mother in some kind of eg flower design, dependingon her tastes. You could ask you father to buy some flowers and her favourite chocolates for her birthday, or her favourite scent. In addition you could offer, with your father and any brothers/sisters, to make the dinner tomorrow and give her breakfast in bed. These things should be enough, at minimal expense, to show her that you love her. In future I would suggest that you don't let this date go forgotten again. You owe your mother your very existence. The least you can do is remember her birthday. Sorry, cheering or other excuses have no power whatsoever on remembering a mother's birthday. No excuse is ever, ever good enough.

Been there before- and usually you can make a boxed cake for her Boxed cake can be found on sale from 99 cents to $1.99, and frosting about $2.00
You can get a card and a mylar balloon (or 2) at your local dollar store- balloons cost $1.00 and the cards are 2/$1.00
You may even find some nice things at the dollar store- personal care products like lotions, bubble bath etc.. little trinkets, or a frame and put a picture inside the frame-maybe one of you and her, or something she loves.
You can even print your own card on the pc which is more personal, make a poem inside how you feel about her.

This past year I got her a gift card, but my daughter wanted to get her mom mom something which I then didn't have a lot of cash left so I got some things at the dollar store, and bought a card and put some lottery scratch tickets inside. I bought a frame and put a pic of my daughter and the dog in it- printed it out on my pc, cut it and placed it in the frame.

Get out the crayons or magic markers and a piece of colored paper ( or several pieces of different colored paper). Fold in half, and again, and again. Open up the paper and you will have ( depending on how many times you folded the paper,) either 8 or 16 squares. I prefer 8.
Cut the squares equally and staple your booklet together.
Make a cover and place a saying that mom always says or a personal message on it. Place a picture of the two of you on the cover if you have one.

Make each coupon special and give a time limit.
This coupon entitled mom to a back rub, redeemable now, This coupon entitles mom 1 complete hour of me not talking, redeemeble now, this coupon entitleds mom to one day of no housework ( yes you must do it) You get the idea.
Along with the heart felt i love you and i appreciate you, this should be a great present.
(If you promise it , you have to fufil the promise. Be careful what you promise.)

Print off a pic of the two of you or even one of yourself or with another sibling and put it in a frame. You can find cute or simple frames at the dollar store and can print the picture off for less than $1.

If that doesnt fit your mom's taste then just hang out with her for the day and catch up. Mom's love that

Make her a nice dinner or pack a picnic and the two of you could go on a picnic together. Take her to a movie (go early because it's cheaper)....or just stick around at home with her, help around the house...

Or, my favorite, write her a little note telling her how much you love her and appreciate her.

Pick the best memory you have of you and your mom doing something together. Write it down for her - add some pictures or stickers. Be creative, then frame it for her.

I always like to get a magic marker and write "I LOVE YOU" all around the frame.

She'll LOVE it.

Moms appreciate all kinds of things - a big hug and a "Happy Birthday, Mom. I love you!" would be great. Make her a "gift certificate" that entitles her to your services such as doing the laundry, cleaning her house, giving her a manicure/pedicure, etc. If she knows of your financial situation, she will totally understand and love whatever you do if it is from your heart.

A single Rose and card would be nice and there's no doubt your mom would be grateful.
