Is it okay for women to make more money than men?
my wife and i are both family doctors. She makes $140k while i make $100k, and i have no problem with that. I am actually proud that she is worth more than me in the medical market.

But, while at a party, a friend of mine was outraged that i made less than my wife for some reason. i told him that i was proud and had no problem with that, but i think he had issues with male-biased thinking. he was asking about salary, so i didnt ignore his question

also stating your age range will help me understand where you are coming from
0-20, 20-40, 40-60, 60-118(oldest human i think)

There is nothing wrong in a women getting more than a man. There is no gender in medical profession I should say. Please try to avoid this thought. do not discuss this with a friend who is more concerned in such thoughts. That may spoil your family life. If somebody is curious to know about your income, you should learn to say that we both put together make 240 K and not separately. If somebody is so curious, you can also say that your wife volunteered to be your bill collector also so she collects more money and you do not because you do not go for collection.( ignore them)

I'm 2 months away from 40.

Lots of women in my same job make more than I do. Its nothing.

Polite company doesn't ask about salaries and incomes, and your party friend was being incredibly rude simply by prying into such a metter. When people ask such pointedly tacky questions, you should answer in a noncommittal way like "we do all right.." and never give a dollar figure.

40 - 60 and I don't see it as an issue - people should be paid based on what their skills are worth and what their company/clients are willing to pay. Gender is completely immaterial.

I doubt a real doctor would ask such a ignorant question.
