Evolution is a scientific fact; yet many still believe in the refuted theory of creationism, as well as the god hypothesis. They question the idea of evolution because they believe there to be a lack of evidence to support it yet when their god hypothesis is questioned they just say it's faith. Well; what if atheists started saying that they believed in evolution because of faith?

Evolution is a scientific fact, Darwins theory of evolution by natural selection is a theory, (and not a scientific hypothesis). People confuse the two. Darwin described a way of explaining how evolution which was already around, worked.

Evolution has been reproduced in a laboratory. Also, it has been computer simulated on a program called Tierra using computer programs capable of evolution instead of organisms.

That'd piss them off anyway...it might also get them to quit seeing the faith thing as a "good" answer, then they'd have to rely on logical arguement like the rest of us; good work!

And actually Jean-marie, they HAVE.

Profound. Really profound question. Utterly profound.

Thank you, but I don't care for the taste of being deceived.

I certainly don't question the fact that things evolve -- but your contention that creationism is some refuted theory lacks the credibility of the geologic record and the other artifacts and fossils of archaeological excavations.

It's okay to question anything. That's what a forum is for ... "discussion" ...

It's fine to believe in evolution. However, my faith will take me much farther than your Darwinism in the context of the eternity.

About the only other thing that leaps out from your lovely little rant is 'if atheists started saying that they believed in evolution because of faith' it would smack of the fallacy ignoratio elenchus -- not because it is totally unscientific --nor due to the fact that it has nothing to do with ignorance; but simply implies the point you make is fairly irrelevant to the crux of issue at hand.

The issues of science and the issues of faith are by definition incongruent.

Atheists do indeed believe in evolution because of faith. To believe in something that cannot be proven is, by definition, an act of faith.

I'll tell you something that really is a fact: Nobody has ever observed life generated from non-living material. You show that this can happen and you'll get a Nobel Prize and a high dollar book deal.

I think you are wrong about why they reject evolution. It is because of religious reasons and not rational or scientific ones. The believers are only able to frame morality in terms of being God's little robots. They believe evolution would destroy their morality and result in chaos.
There is more but those are the basics.
It is a major error to think that it is a rational decision. No matter what evidence you presented or logic you used you would still be trying to use the wrong tool to fix the wrong problem.

There are cetain pieces of evidence that lend credibility to portions of the evolutionary theory of life. I personally have no problem with the idea that life evolved. I believe that I continue to evolve every day.
But ultimately we don't know, whether some random event happened and here we are, whether someone said there you are and here we were, or if it was somewhere in between.
So yeah I think evolutionists have a certain amount of faith in their theory.

Family Guy had a great take on Creationism: I Dream of Jeanie was doing the populating of the Earth. Funny.
As a Christian I believe there is a God.
But as a Nurse I believe in Science too.
Evolution is how we got to where we are and we are evolving now too.

They don't understand evolution. That's the problem. They look for "transitional fossils" as though there aren't any already. they think that one day a "monkey" wakes up and gives birth to a human. They have no concept of what evolution means, and so they don't see the logic of it. It's very upsetting to me. To me, it is indicative of how America has failed its children by allowing them to get out of school without the ability to think. I need to learn dutch and move to the Netherlands where this crap is laughable.

As a "creationist" I believe that Genesis talks about the restoration of the earth after a mass extinction. In short, I take it that God intervened in the evolutionary processes and used genetic engineering ("made after thier kind") to create the modern animals with DNA structures similar to the prehistoric animals. Likewise for man, with the addition of being spiritually made in the image of God.

I too have faith in evolution! But not in god, because there is proof of evolution and no proof of god, how could something that doesnt exsist have created the world or anything!
