if anyone tries to tell you off just tell them that white is the Japanese color of mourning. i find that people who wear black to funerals are just too insipid to think of wearing another color. i always wear white no matter what the season is and i havent been told off for it yet.

Years ago nobody wore anything brighter than navy, brown, grey or black. Today, I see many people attend services in all types of clothing. It is more appropriate to wear darker colors, however, I think the real important thing is being there for the family of the deceased. If a person is unable to dress properly , like a man coming from work, the best thing is to excuse yourself to the family of the deceased.

It's a funeral.. what harm would it do if you wore something dark, black, navy or any dark shade dress you have?
Yes, the people may not mind, but they might as well mind very much. Go for a dark-shade dress and avoid any possible misunderstandings and embarrassments.
I'm not very aware with different cultures worldwide and in different nations, but I know for sure that most of the cultures I know about take white as a resemblance of happiness (like in a wedding gown).
Bottom-line:
It's better to stay on the safe-side in 'sad' occasions, unlike parties where it wouldn't harm as much if you go dress in the wrong kind of apparel.

No. You'd be better off in a more subtle color. You don't want to stand out because the focus is on the loss of the person.
In some cultures white is a funeral color because it's a celebration of their life, in that case you could wear off-white just be sure it's dressy, not too casual.

I am not the fashion police by any means ... but I am going to have to go with no on this one.
I don't usually buy into rules about what colors to wear when, but when it comes to a funeral we're talking about respect for someone's memory and respect for their family.
You may find that some people there wouldn't care either way, but even if you make one person feel bad (after he or she lost a loved one) then it's not worth it. I'd say find something darker to wear.

I always go with black or dark grey to funerals. Everybody always seems to be dressed in one or the other. Besides, do you want to be the one everyone is gossiping about afterwards?

I wouldn't advise it. Better to wear something in a darker color. White looks so festive.
