because people generally see cats as gentle creatures and couldnt hurt you. since cats havent been bred to protect their owners or the house they dont seem threatening to people as a doberman dog. i certainly wouldnt be scared by a cat if i was breaking into someone's house

I am not sure I guess more people fear dogs than they do cats. I want to get a beware of cat sign. My cat is very protective of me and will attack anyone who touchs me. Cats can be very dangerous at times, by clawing or biting. I have had blood drawn on many occasions most not intentional but I did have to step in front of one of my friends before the cat attacked her and he had a good bite on me.
Dogs barking can scare off some people and some people are just scared of dogs, which depending how they were raised can do some damage too.

One doesn't often hear about people being 'attacked' by cats, but you do hear about them being attacked by dogs. So it is fair to warn visitors of having a dog on your premises.

Additionally, it is a piece of psychology to 'Warn Off' would be burglars or those without a legitimate reason for visiting ~ to say nothing of the possibility of it being a Legal Necessity to 'WARN' visitors (depending upon the type of dog you have) that you have a dog ~ and likely one that has the free run of the property.

With such an enquiring mind, I'd have thought you'd have figured out all this for yourself!

People may warn you about a dog before entering a house before they tend to protect actively their home and their owners. That's why a dog can be trained as a guard dog.

Cats do not protect their home or owners against strangers, unless the intruder appears to be a cat. Obviously humans do get bitten or scratched by cats (vets do for example) but you cannot train a cat to be a guard cat!

There is no reason to be aware of a cat. What is it really going to do to you. Dogs can do a great deal of damage and are generally protective. There are not many cats who care wether you enter or not, the smart ones run. I have had some nasty barn cats but not one scared anyone, there is no reason to be.

Hi farooq h

its probable because you would never ever think that cats do harm to people at all, and usually you hear of attacks from dogs and not of cats. But I was once attacked by a cat in a house.

Have fun with all your answers

Some people think dogs can do more damage, and they can do alot of damage, but cats can too. Some dogs are bred as guard dogs, and they are bigger and stronger then cats. Both can hurt you, but people see dogs as a bigger threat. I dont agree with that though, because cat scratches and bites HURT!!! My friend has scars all over her arms and legs from her cat.

Dogs are bigger and have a worse reputation (bully breeds like pit bulls) than cats. If you think about it, you see more dogs on the news than cats. :)

Generally it's dogs who are trained to attack - being as they're more trainable than cats and you know, bigger!

I have seen 'Beware of the Cat' signs though!!
