Well, first it depends on what your friend considers rich. If he means millionares, I was once given a $50 tip from a guy that owns a big trailer company and that was pretty great. If he means the ones who make a lot of money but aren't always considered rich than sometimes it is true, but not always. It really depends on what you consider rich. It is a relative term. Some people could even consider you or me rich which I am far from (well, at least in my opinion). It also depends on the job. Some people tip a waiter or waitress a whole lot, but wouldn't think twice about not tipping a pizza delivery guy at all. I guess it really depends on yours or that persons state of mind. Rich1179 is right though, the best tippers are the ones that work for tips themselves.

I delivered pizzas for 2 years and that's totally false. The best tippers were people who have worked for tips, followed by the upper and upper-middle class.

That's absurd. Being rich has noting to do with it, it's all about the person who is tipping. And whatever whoever said about the rich being selfish is just plain stupid: I've known plenty of rich people in my life, and most of them liked sharing their wealth. Although I do think that what rich1179 said is also true: the people that most tip( or at least always tip, amount irrelevant) are the ones that have worked for tips themselves.

Once again, you cannot generalize a group. Most people tip and I have friends with money who are very generous tippers. One pizza delivey guy does not have all the answers.

Yes, I believe this is true. I've also heard that rich people are lousy tippers. I think that the richer a person, the greater the desire to keep their wealth to themselves.

My family is rich and my dad always told me to leave a good tip because I believe they get reimbursed for the gas in their tank but not the wear and tear and that can be costly. Plus it is polite.

My Dad is rich. He leaves a $100 every time we eat out. We eat out 3 times a month on average.

Probably, the whole mind set of most rich people is that you have to have more money, you can't be giving it away, you have to have more and more and more.
