If you really study through it. Tongues are for today and until Jesus returns. And everyone is suppose to do it, John Bevere has a teaching on how everyone should speak in tongues, the teaching is Intimacy with the Holy Spirit.

There are three difrent types of tounges
The one for others launges.
One for edification of the church
One for edifacation of self,

All three are in the bible.

The modern tongues movement is nothing short of a farce! The gift of tongues was only ever given in the first place to allow the Gospel to be preached to unbelieving Jews. It was called unknown tongues because the language was unknown to the speaker but the hearer understood perfectly as he was hearing the Gospel in his own language. The so-called tongues speakers of today will tell you that you must be able to speak in tongues in order to be saved as it evidences the fact that you are filled with the Holy Spirit. Not so says the Bible! the Bible says that tongues are a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not. When you research the Bible it becomes clear that the "them" are in fact unbelieving Jews. The apostle Paul warned that this gift was not to be misused as if there came in to the church someone who was unsaved and everyone there was babbling in tongues, he would think they were all mad. Paul further stated that tongues were the least of all gifts. Tongues were not to be exercised in the church if there was no interpreter present. Why have an interpreter? to tell the church what was being said. Further, at any one meeting there were to be no more than 3 people speak in tongues and then it was to be one at a time. The so-called tongues speakers of today all stand up together and babble in some ecstatic gibberish which is unknown to be any language on earth. there is no unbelieving jew present and no interpreter. Tongues were a known language as we find in Acts chapter 2. The Bible states that where there are tongues, they shall cease, where there are miracles, they shall cease. Tongues and miracles are NOT in operation today and we are warned in the Bible not to believe everything which appears to be a miracle as the Lord knows Satan can copy or counterfeit these which is all the more reason we need to be on guard against this sort of thing. Don't be fooled, study it out for yourself. I'm a born again believer and I have never spoken in tongues. What point would there be today for anyone claiming to be able to speak in tongues? The so-called tongues speakers of today will always claim that they can pray for the various gift of the Holy Spirit to be given to them. No so again as the Spirit determines who gets which gift however the only gift common to all believers is the Holy Spirit Himself. As a point of interest, Scripture does not record anywhere that a woman ever received the gift of tongues which is in line with teaching that a woman must remain silent in the church and not to speak. How many women today claim they have the gift of tongues? Remember, Satan is a great counterfeiter. Don't be taken in by all of this as it's a sham.

Baptism of Holy Spirit is a gift for every born again child of God. What child of God would not want a gift from God? Actually, it is a COMMANDMENT. Please read the book of Acts and then read Corinthians and become to know about the gifts that comes with the baptism of Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues( gifts of knowledge, prophecy, tongues(give message to Church),healing, and more! All believers will speak in tongues during the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is the evidence. Please remember that LOVE is to always is to be our primary motivation. Thank God for Jesus. Now ask for the Gift just like it is in the book of Acts. Promised Gift.

When two or more people speak different languages it is possible for them to be filled with the Spirit enough to begin speaking in the other's language so as to be understood. With the gift of tongues also comes the gift of interpretation - being able to understand what is being said. It's all about communication and getting the message across.

Just making noise to make noise is a waste of time and energy.

I don't pretend to be a Biblical scholar, so I don't have a view on Corinthians, but I've seen people speaking in tongues, and I think its just superstitious, non-sensical babbling. Very funny to me actually.

Speaking in tongues or languages means one can talk and anyone can understand them, from other lands/languages. It isn't some jibberish talk that Satan can't understand.

Read Acts 2 again:
1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.
5Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs-we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" 12Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?"

It's a product of people getting overly excited and/or wanting to impress the person next to them. In other words, I don't believe in it.
