1. First realize and become aware of how important it is to develop the skill of concentration and memory.
2. Do not always trust your memory. Write your ideas, goals and important information down on paper. Anything you need to get accomplished, create a To Do list.
3.Use the formula…Think It, Ink It, Link It and Sink It.
4.Create an affirmation to build memory and concentration. Many people say “I can never remember names” or “I have such a bad memory.” These will only reinforce your belief in having a bad memory. Instead, create a positive affirmation and say “I have an amazing memory and I remember names with ease.” Once you “act as if” you have great concentration and memory, you will have great concentration and memory.
5.The use of your imagination is a key factor in remembering any names, places or things. When remembering, amplify whatever it is you want to remember. Make it bigger, bolder and louder so it impresses upon your memory.
6. Clean up any clutter or messes in your life. Any unresolved business will turn your attention away from what it is you need to remember.
7. Set goals for yourself. Once you set a goal, your mind will automatically accept it into the subconscious and recalling important information will become easier.
8. Listen to others…Look Intent, Stop Talking, Embrace Naturally. This way, you will absorb what others are saying and it will be easier to recall.
9.When remembering, take a deep breath in, exhale and relax. This will allow you to release any tension and resistance, thus enabling you to concentrate without trying.
10. Read books and study how your memory works.

If you want to improve your ability to memorize, then learn to use the memory systems. These systems include the peg method, link method, Roman Room method, and so on.
A easy-to-read book that explains these methods and gives lots of examples is "The Memory Book" by Harry Lorayne. If you are a student, his other book, "Super Memory, Super Student" is even better. It explains how the memory systems can be used to memorize class work like chemistry, literature, or math.
To improve your memory in general, you will probably need to make some lifestyle changes. There has been a lot of research lately about memory that seems to indicate you should approach the problem from more than one angle.
This research shows that exercising daily, improving the quality of your sleep, eating brain foods and taking brain vitamins, and meditating can measurably improve memory. You can also play brain games like sudoku, crossword puzzles, and chess to help keep your mind sharp.
You can do all this for almost no money. The two books I mentioned are only about $10 each. Vitamins and brain foods are cheap, and the other lifestyle changes are free. And you can easily find free brain games on the Internet.

Brain Training on the Nintendo DS, apparently.
Improving your memory is the same as improving any other skill - practise, practise, practise. Have a look for some memory tasks and see how well you perform. Keep practising them and build up to more difficult tasks over time. The more you use your brain, the better trained it becomes.

Get enough sleep (8 hours adults, 9 hours teens, 9 to 10 hours adolescents) get some exercise most days, at least 1/2 hour get good quality sleep - if dogs are barking in the night, or a nearby airport keeps you up, play soft music all night to block out the sound. If you suspect a sleep disorder, then google sleep hygeine and sleep disorders & get more info on this. Don't multitask. Research proves our brains handle one thing at a time best. If we do 2 things at once, we don't perform very well. Pay attention. Many times, we don't form a memory to begin with. Use flash cards and crib sheets if you are in school. If you are in school, write formulae, names, dates, etc on the inside front cover of your exam booklet as soon as you get it, if you are worried you will forget those things under pressure, or have a poor memory. When you meet someone new, use their name a couple times while you talk to them, to get it into your head. Form an association, like if you meet someone named michael, think of michael phelps and olympic swimming. This can help a lot. I still have trouble, becuase I have bipolar disorder & that messes up memory, so as soon as I get away, I write their name down. Or, ask for a business card. In a sit down meeting, write their names down right away on your notepad. Study and memorize the name later & remind yourself a few times until you have it down cold.

Sorry, what was the question?! I forgot it.
I had to. The brain is a muscle like most of the rest of you and if you want to keep it fit and healthy, you have to use it. Whether it is by reading a book, doing a puzzle, playing a board game like Trivial Pursuit, taxing the brain will keep it healthier for longer.
