I LOVE, LOVE sweets. I'm a chocoholic. But I managed to cut back.
First, I don't stock up on chocolate and junk food at home, car or office. That was the first step. Then I made a BIG effort not to use the vending machine at work. I did buy a huge amount of almond and peanut snacks, in times when I do need a snack. Salted or unsalted, doesn't matter. It's still better than junk food.
There would be days that you will crave it badly. Then do indulge in a small amount. Depriving yourself will just backfire. Moderation is the key. I used to go to the Godiva store when I crave chocolate and buy their chocolate-dipped strawberry. The price alone (roughly $6 a piece) will guarantee moderation. Plus you get points for eating fruit.
If you crave chips, buy those single-serve ones (like the one from the vending machine). After eating, brush your teeth or your tongue. This should quell some craving.
I weened myself from junk food slowly. It takes a while and a lot of effort since we're in the land of plenty, but doable.
If you want to quit soda, don't quit cold turkey. That one I quit cold turkey, I went through withdrawals like a junkie for two weeks. Instead, drink less and less over a period of time, it will lessen the effect of caffeine withrawal (I don't drink coffee to begin with, and I think that's why the caffeine-deprivation was worse when I quit cold)
Lastly, congratulations on taking the first step to quit junk food and lead a healthier lifestyle. Kudos!

I know how you feel. I love junk food, but I'm trying to loose weight too. Try to think of your cravings as momentary. You want whats good for you in the long run, not to satisfy things that will only hinder your progress when it all comes down to it. If you're easily addicted to things, try thinking of grapes, or apples as delicious. The more you think about it, the more you'll crave it. Convince yourself that grapes and apples are your favourite food. Every time you think about say, cookies, tell yourself 'gross' and think of something sickening, like throwing up, or eating bugs and soon every time you think of something sugary, all you'll think about is crunching on those grasshoppers. Hungry now? It doesn't seem like it'll work but you can convince yourself almost anything. Mmmmm grapes.

can i get a what what!!!! (i think you and i have the same taste buds!!) for the first time in my life i can say: i have the answer!!!!! okay there are a few typical tips:
chew gum, sugar free candies, flavored water/diet colas, brush your teeth or mouth wash when you get a munchy, fiberous foods also help... etc... but wouldn't it be so much better to just not have to use those in the first place!!?!!
this might sound a little nutty, but don't nock it till you try it. (if you are really desperate... you will try it, cause... well it's free!!!!) every night before bed when you lay down, lay flat on your back. let your wrists lift up and just let your legs head and everything just drop away. take very slow and deep breaths with your eyes closed. mentally talk yourself through relaxing your whole body (start with toes, to ankles, calves, knees... blah blah... don't forget your arms, and even your facial muscles) imagine your skin melting into the bed or floor. when you feel totally relaxed, imagine yourself looking in a three way mirror and seeing your body the way you want it to be... feel good about it cause you are hot! then imagine yourself walking into a dinner with friends. they have sweets and all of the foods that make you weak sitting around. you eat dinner (a healthy and balanced meal... the things that you want yourself to enjoy) and after wards they offer you your sweet treats. (for me it's always peanut butter m&ms!!!) and say one of two things... "oh thank you, just one." (this teaches you to be able to eat these things without going hog wild) or "no thanks, i'm actually very full!" (this teaches you to identify a full feeling and the disciplin to say no when you don't need anything more!) finish the dinner in your mind, and then walk into another room (in your mind) this room again has all of the foods you crave. this time you are all alone, so you are at your weakest... only this is not real, so you can't mess up. walk through the room looking at the food and acknowledging that it looks good but that you really just don't care for any. then you come back to the mirror. you see your body even better because of the great choices you made in this "vision" look at yourself in the eyes in the mirror and say to yourself, "i look good becasue i make good choices. i eat healthy foods and when i am full i am done. when i am full, i am done. sweet treats have no hold on me. i am in control of what i eat and how much. i choose to limit foods that limit my success. and when i do eat them, i stop after only one bite. this is enough to satisfy me. because of my good choices, my body gets better everyday, and i can see the changes motivating me to continue." then slowly start to liven your body back up. wiggle your toes, ankle... etc walking back up your body and then say out loud, "i believe that this or something better now manifests for me."
okay i know i know it sounds a little crazy and wacky... but why be afraid to be a little crazy and wacky if... everyone's looking at your tight buns and saying, "man, i wish i could have that!" ;) it works... and you dno't have to tell anyone you did it, but you have to really get into it. don't just do it... do it with heart!
i swear... you'll be shocked! it is the first thing in my life i've found that worked for me... and believe me i had issues! good luck!

Don't keep it in your house. Keep fresh fruit and healthy snacks available. When you feel a need for a snack either eat one of those, drink flavored water, or get involved in an activity to get your mind off of food. When you are away from home carry a healthy snack with you.

I had examine someplace at the instant that it may take in to twenty-30 circumstances of repeating some thing for it to grow to be a habit. So it would desire to soak up to a month or on occasion longer to interrupt the habit of attaining for the sugar crammed treats once you have a yearning. while you're quite yearning some sugar, attempt to choose for some lite-yogurt particularly of a Mars bar. It quite helped me to kill the yearning and it became a healthful option.

Firstly, don't buy the stuff in the first place.
Also, I have listed below a technique called the compulsion blowout. This is a good way to get rid of food compulsions.

Try the Oreo cookie 100 calorie snack packs. Nabisco also makes other snack packs. The problem is just eating one pack.
