I want my sister to be my maid of honor. My best friend is about 20 years older than me and she's never been married. Can I call her my Matron of Honor since she's older, or do I have to just call her a Bridesmaid? There will only be the two of them standing with me. Thanks!

I think Matron of Honor is the equivalent to Maid of Honor except that the woman is married. So if your older friend has never been married, she couldn't be a matron. Remember that it is an honor to be in someone's wedding so chances are your older friend won't need a special title to feel honored.

Well, if you don't want to call her a Bridesmaid, you could call her an Honor Attendant.

A Matron of Honor is a married Maid of Honor.

A maid of honor is single and a matron of honor is married. You could call your sister & best friend both maids of honor or call one a maid of honor and one a bridesmaid. Is your fiancee having two best men or one best man and one groomsman? That might help decide what you call your attendants.

Just call her a bridesmaid because a Matron of Honor is for a lady who is married. Or...you could call her your maid of honor and have 2! Anything goes...that would be cool!

Even though your friend is older, if she is unmarried, she's a bridesmaid. Only married women can be called a Matron of Honor.

There is one position, called either the Maid of Honour (not married) OR Matron of Honour (married). The others are bridemaids. So your sister will be your MOH and the friend a bridesmaid. - or you can use the word 'attendant'.

Matron of Honor is a married maid of honor, so no, don't call your friend that.

Maid of Honor is unmarried, Matron is married. If your best friend is not married, she's a Maid.

If, given her age, you're not comfortable referring to her as a "Maid," it would be appropriate to refer to both of them as "Honor Attendants," if that feels more comfortable for you.

Best wishes!

You would either have 2 maids of honor or 1 MOH and 1 bridesmaid....either way if totally fine.
