I was invited to a wedding this weekend by an old friend for his daughter's wedding. But not sure what to give them as a gift. This is their first marriage and they are young, in their 20s or so. Any ideas?

Ask your friend where they are registered. If they have a bridal registry, then they've already done the work for you!

If not, or if items let on their registry are sold out of your local store/more than you want to spend, try a gift card. They can apply it toward the purchase of something they want, and it's a little more personal than cash if you get them a card to Bed Bath & Beyond or Linens N Things or similar store. It's like saying "I wanted to get something for your new home, but I don't really know your taste or what you need."

Wine... maybe a couple of glasses to go with it. They can drink it or save it for later.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine got married... one of the gifts I got for them was the local newspaper. Just a memento for them to save.

Gift cards are also perfectly fine.

Use a disposable camera at the wedding reception, take some nice photos of the location, the people, some of the fun things going on, and the couple together... give them the camera to develop... or develop it yourself and give them the best photos. Or give it to the family.

How close are you to the daughter?

If I were in your shoes, and not close to the daughter, I would send my regrets and a nice card.

However if you are close to them, then get something nice from the registry if they have one.

Something off of their registry or everyone loves cash. Give them $100 or so and they'll love it, I'm sure!

Money is always a good gift. If they are young a check will probably be appreciated.
