He'll probably put you on anti depressants but i think you need more then just pills because they dont help the problem they just block what you are feeling. You should ask to speak to a counsellor too, so you can find out why you are feeling like this. Definitely go to your doctor though!

of course your doctor will take you seriously. Thinking those kind of thoughts is a very serious thing. please please dont try and do anything, i lost three friends to suicide and the hurt and upset that is left behind after you is terrible hard to bear. A doctor cannot section anyone unless the person is willing to go. There are laws about it, so dont worry, all your doctor will do is try and help. You could ring the samaritans also, or there is a website set up recently in ireland but the name of it is gone from me now, if anyone else knows maybe they can tell you what it is. Dont give up hope. There is always a brighter day around the corner, it might take a while but things will get better, trust me i know

If what you say is true then I would like to tell you that my close friend did exactly what you say you do and she got put on Prozac by her doctor and stayed on it for less than a year and she was able to completely come out of it.

You should be aware that if you tell a healthcare professional (social worker, police, etc) what you said here I think they are obligated to call an ambulance and have you commited for your own protection for like 72 hours I think.

You should ALWAYS take suicidal talk seriously even joking about it and they know that.

Just tell him that you think you are seriously depressed and that you self harm. He should get it from that. You don't need to say that you are seriously considering suicide. But DEFINITELY tell him that you self harm and you need an SSRI like Zoloft, etc.

Hmmmm... unless you think you could use a couple of days under supervision??? If you really think you are going to do it at any moment now then tell your doctor that or call 911 NOW

It depends on your doctor, but all doctors will (or should) take you seriously.

You probably won't get sectioned, this would only happen if your Dr thought you were going to kill yourself the minute you walked out the door, or if you were a danger to other people. He/she is most likely to talk to you about your feelings, and then either prescribe you anti-depressants or refer you to a psychologist/psychiatrist for further help. Don't be worried about the section thing, it's very unlikely, your Dr will be reasonable and listen to you. Best of luck.

The doctors will try to help you, they will not section you but if you are harming yourself they may keep you in for a while but thats nothing to be scared of any thing that helps you when your feeling like that is worth trying, I should take my own advise im suicidally depessed at the moment to but to kill myself would ruin my parents, every thing in life passes if i still feel suicadally depressed next week i shall not hesitate to go to the doctors ive been like this for 5 weeks now had it on and off for years, been treated for it but never sectioned. Please go to a doctor there is nothing to be scared of and i hope you feel much better soon, take care

In this tiny town in the middle of nowhere, the Dr. would admit me to the hospital long enough to get things stabilized and later be evaluated by mental health who would, as bad as they are, get me somewhere for some real help, probably.
I already talked to him about it....cause I have come really close. The big problem is the fine line between making that call or calling it quits.
If you self harm, cut ?, get the impression you are drinking....there are issues that are probably buried in you subconscious that need exposed and processed....and lies you believe that need replaced with truths. Your whole world can change. Just need some help doing that. Different methods work...various therapy, EMDR.
Get the help now before you screw up and make the wrong decision....when it's so easy to go either way.....I know !
I spent 20 years cleaning up messes from suicides and dealing with family members etc that were left.....wouldn't think I would even consider it !!
So think about that side of it while you are dialing 911 or going to the hospital. Get help now

The doctor will prescribe you some medicine depending on how bad you are. It will depend on how strong the medicine is. He will also try and book you in for counselling, it does help trust me, i have been there, i still am, but i am not as bad as what i was when i started. But be prepared to be on the medicine for at least 18 months maybe even longer, and dont do what i did and after a couple of months think i'm better now, i dont need to carry on. Because when i did that i dropped quicker than i can drop my trousers.

Good Luck!!

Hello...how are you feeling now?

I can totally sympathise, been there, done that and have the scars to prove it...

Really depends where abouts you are and how good your GP is, but in my experience they refer you to a psychiatrist or psychologist, put you on a long waiting list....then refer you for treatment...perhaps CBT or similar...again, long waiting list. not the best of systems.

The best thing you can do is talk, talk talk...to anybody who will listen, just get it off your chest. Do you have a close friend or family member you could perhaps confide in? Or sometimes it is easier to talk to a stranger, as they tend to 'judge' less as they are not so emotionally affected by your threats to your own life. It can be all to easy for a family member to say 'but what about me/your family/friends/pets/anything else they can think of to make you see 'sense' when at the time, you are not really thinking very rationally at all...

Are you already on anti-depressants? If so, it may be the case that the one you are on is not working for you and you may need to speak to your GP about changing your medication. For some people, certainly for me, things can get worse in the short term after taking anti-D's before they start to get any better. I was on Citalopram (which started off the panic attacks), venlafaxine and finally mirtazipine before deciding they simply didn't work for me. But everybody is different and we all respond in different ways to these medications...is really a case of trial and error.

I do hope you have some success with your GP, though unless they have experienced it, it is very difficult for anybody to understand what you are going through. Please, do not try and take your own life. I really don't think that is what you want to do, but I do understand how it is to feel so desperate to have somebody listen and understand you. I also have been around people who have tried to commit suicide..one a friend and another an ex-partner - it is very messy and the fall out can be catastrophic to you and those around you.

you think about doing it but you know its only a cry for help?? well stop dwelling and get help then, no one is going to help you, you have to help your self.

Your doctor will prescribe anti depressents probably remember they take a few weeks to kick in then you will feel better,

As for only trying to kill your self for help not you personally but what a stupid idea, I can't understand why someone would just pretend to kill them selves ie take an over dose then phone a friend, it attention seeking and pathetic, I cant stand people who do that, (this is not aimed at you personally I am just having a rant), sorry and I hope you get the help you need.
